The Lansing, Kansas Coast Guard gift history can trace back to 1907 when the first Coast Guard station was established in the town. The town's Depot was used as a storage area for supplies and equipment until 1925 when the present Station Building was dedicated. The station has been in use ever since. In 1957, an addition was built to the Station which included a dining room, mess hall, and offices. In 1965, a new annex was added to the Station which housed more than doubled the size of the original building. The Annex is still in use today as the Headquarters for Lansing's Coast Guard Department. On December 1st 1984, within one year of each other, both Headquarters buildings were destroyed by fire. It was at this time that Lansing's COGHtStation became operational again with its newly renovated Station Buildings! Today, Lansing's Coast Guard Department functions as an important part of our community and provides support to local law enforcement officers and emergency responders during times of crisis. To date, we have donated over $100K worth of equipment and supplies to our community partners!
