The Lansing Air National Guard wing has a long history of deploying gifts to local communities. In the early 1900s, the wing donated many items like bicycles and radios to help support military service in World War I. The gift giving continued during World War II with donations of airplanes, missiles, torpedoes, tanks and more. Today, the Wing continues its tradition of sending toys and other festive gifts to local families in Lansing and throughout Kansas. The Wing's deployment history began on November 7th, 1941 when two planes were delivered to the Lansing Air National Guard Base by General Curtis LeMay. These planes were used for testing purposes until they could be replaced by more advanced models. The Wing also donated two fighter planes which would later be used in operations against Japan. Since then, various gifts have been sent to various parts of Kansas including: Stroudsburg; Topeka; Wichita; Overland Park; Junction City; Lawrence; Garden City; Hutchinson’s Topeka Regional Airport (now Mid-Continent Airlines); Lenexa (now Kochi airport); Shawnee Mission (now Mission Hills) etcetera. It is truly an air force that spans across the globe!
The United States Air Force deployed a gift of technology to the people of Afghanistan this year. The gift is called "Airlift". It is a remote-controlled helicopter that can be flown by troops on land or in the air. The helicopter has been used to provide medical evacuations and humanitarian aid to Afghanistan since its deployment in October 2009. The Airlift helicopters were donated by Boeing Company. They are made with advanced technology and are designed for long-term use in Afghanistan. The helicopters can be used for either ground or aerial operations. They have been equipped with sensors and video recording capabilities, making them perfect for providing emergency relief to Afghans who are facing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other threats posed by militants. Since their deployment, the Airlift helicopters have conducted more than 1,000 flights over Afghanistan. Their primary mission is to support Operation Enduring Freedom - Resolute Support, which is the international coalition fighting Taliban rebels in Afghanistan. However, they also provide assistance to other coalition partners such as Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's government and Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh's government during their respective conflicts in those countries.

Lansing is a town in Kansas, United States. It was founded in 1867 by James H. Lansing and his wife Esther. The population was 5,822 at the 2010 census. Lansing is named after Lansing County, Michigan. Lansing was founded on the banks of the White River in what is now Grant County, Kansas by James H. Lansing and his wife Esther Lansing. The first settler in what is now Lansing was John McClure who built a log cabin near present day Holland Avenue and US- 36 in 1868. In 1870, another pioneer, Elijah Woods, arrived with his family from Ohio. They set up a permanent camp on the east side of the river just south of present day Holland Avenue between Hollidaysburg Road and US- 362 (now Hackett Boulevard). They named their new settlement Hastings after Hastings County, Michigan where they had been born and raised. In 1871 when Hastings Township was organized under territorial jurisdiction of Kansas Territory (later Oklahoma), James H. Lansdale donated land to create modern-day Lansing for future settlers as part of that township's charter amendment which authorized its creation: "And be it further ordained that said township contain four square miles...and that said township be bounded north by State Highway 10 westward to an endpoint located at an intersection with Keystone Drive; south by State Highway 12 eastward to an endpoint located at an intersection with Hackett Boulevard; east by US- 362 (now Hackett Boulevard) until it intersects with State Highway 10; and westward to the White River." This land donation created what would become one of the most heavily populated areas within modern day Lansingland - including much of downtown area today - as well as portions of townships such as Haskell, Elkhorn, Winfield and Alva before being annexed into Detroit Township in 1907 following statehood for that territory.. The first school opened in what is now downtown Lansing on January 7th, 1872 when students from nearby Haskell School enrolled in grades 1 through 8th grade pursuant to state law establishing district educational boundaries then governing local government affairs within territorial Kansas Territory.. In 1916 when Lima Township was established adjacent to Detroit Township due to increased acreage available for development within that boundary via annexation thereof during World War I along with other newly formed municipalities since 1907 including parts of central Ottawa Valley - all entities subsequently absorbed into Lansing – then-director general Alfred Murchison offered $10 per acre for sites inside Lima Township deemed suitable for retention or expansion purposes if desired given how rapidly those acres were developed over time culminating with construction beginning on Dearborn Street directly across from CSX Railroad property later becoming home to Principal Park & Central Park today featuring several large green space amenities such as soccer fields & basketball courts etc.; also note enclosing portion northwest corner approximates current site line between Dearborn Street/Central Park South & Neely Road/Hollis Street
