Kansas City, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was 146,505 as of the 2010 census[1]. Kansas City became an important rail junction in America due to its location on the Santa Fe Railway and its position along the Great Western Railroad. In addition to its economic importance, Kansas City is also home to the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC), one of America's largest universities. The site where modern-day Kansas City was founded by farmers near what is now downtown was first inhabited by Native American tribes. The area was eventually furrowed by Spanish traders from New Mexico before becoming part of British St Louis County at Confederation in 1821 following the Louisiana Purchase. At this time it was known as Santa Fe de la Ciudad Real or "Royal Town". The original settlers were primarily French Canadian Puritans who arrived during the Louisiana Purchase era and settled around what is now Union Station on Main Street in 1835. After Lawrence vacated his seat on Congress during the Mexican War (1846-48) because he could not stomach being subject to Mexican rule, General James Kossuth named him governor of Indian Territory while Kossuth himself remained living at Fort Leavenworth outside Topeka until February 11th, 1847 when he surrendered at White Sands Proving Ground east of Roswell,. On July 16th George Wabanaka appointed John Aiken lieutenant colonel United States Volunteers against Florida Indians under command General Winfield Scott with orders to capture three leaders named Pacheco(Hernando de Soto), Canovas (Antonio José de Gálvez)and Black Hawk(George Armstrong Custer). The town began construction on April 12th 1850 when brothers Isaac Newton Chamberlain and Samuel Latham Chamberlain bought land from David Dudley for $8 per acre[2]. They built a small log cabin called “Chamberlain’s Bluff” which served as their headquarters until they moved into their larger cabin known as “Marquette Landing” on current day Main Street just west of territorial government buildings later that year[3]. By October 1st 1850 they had erected a large frame house which they named “Newton’s House” after Isaac Newton Chamberlain[4] and his brother Samuel Latham Chamberlain[5] who lived there most of that year while their father took care of business interests back east.[6]. On November 3rd 1850 they married Mary Elizabeth Goode against advice from family members since she did not have proper marriage rites performed; however she soon bore them two children: Roger Sherman Chalfont [7] who would become mayoralty candidate for Mayor Emanuel in 2020 & Ashley Woodall Brown [8] who would become presidential nominee for Trump 2020 & Press Secretary for Vice President Pence . During early days there were few permanent residents due to lack Of water & transportation available; however over time people begun moving into town primarily because it became an attractive place to work opportunities provided by nearby businesses such as Dodge Manufacturing Company[9], Armour Rubber Works,[10], Union Pacific Railroad,[11], Cash Factory,[12],[13],[14],[15] Wichita Fuel Depot,[16],[17], Phelps Dodge Coal Mines,[18],[19],[20]'s famous Crystal Palace amusement park[]', etc.. As more people came into town tensions began developing between newcomers and existing citizens over social issues including local gambling activities (& subsequent prosecutions)& playground desecration (& ensuing public outcry)[21][22][23][24][25]; moreover political disagreements developed between factions within society led by businessmen such as James Kossuth Sr., Hemanus Otis Chandler etc... Eventually violence erupted when some new arrivals refused To swear allegiance to Kossuth Jr.? leading to numerous skirmishes throughout Territorial years culminating with bloody Battle Of Independence Park March 26th 1861..... As early as 1845 merchants started advertising free freight rates through Kearney Post office onto trails running through present day Overland Park northward towards California
