Junction City is a city in Wichita County, Kansas, United States. The population was 30,917 at the 2010 census. Junction City is the largest city in Wichita County by area and has a population of over 50,000 people. The current mayor of Junction City is Don Payne. The first European settlers to what would become Wichita County were French Canadians who established their fur trading post at Fort Snelling in 1821. In 1824, the U.S. Army constructed a Log Cabin Camp on the south side of the Arkansas River near present-day junction City as part of an effort to settle western Kansas Territory. The townsite was surveyed by General James Kossuth and sold to Joseph Ladd for $1,000 on November 2, 1825. At its peak in 1830, Junction City had a population of 350 residents and prospered as a small regional center trade hub with goods brought all over northwest Kansas Territory by wagon train riders corridor from Missouri through Nebraska and Wyoming before reaching Wichita Falls on the Arkansas River just southeast of present-day Junction City on October 26 of that year. According to one source early Walnut Street (now eastbound I-435) may have been named after Samuel Walnut who established a trading post at this location in about 1827–28; however other sources place this name first being used for an eastbound street which crossed Overland Road NE from Topeka into Wichita County in about 1840s or 1850s according to original platting records which survive today at our local history museum; thus it seems likely that Walnut Street was originally only an eastbound designation until sometime around 1840s when it became westbound following Topeka Avenue's relocation from Main Street into Wichita County’s northeast corner snapping along riverbed once again). A second early settlement also occurred near where I-435 meets US 54 near Present day Waukon Springs – Itsemite Indian Reservation’s Horseshoe Bend National Monument – where numerous natural gas wells were drilled starting about 1880 although there are no extant records documenting this activity/settlement because no road exists leading directly theretofrom today anyhow despite having been located approximately two full miles due southwest (as can be seen on aerial photos taken prior to late 1960s) of junction city proper! The earliest extant deed ever executed within known boundaries of junction city limits shows Matthias Hess settling land adjacent US 54 north & east (what comprises today's northwest corner lot line between I-435 & Park Boulevard), thenceforth commonly called Hess' Corner – circa May 3rduphemiously “Hessville” back then! This location wouldlater come under control of Jasper Township less than one year later via deed dated July 15th1881 when Jacob Weiser ceded his portion thereof adjacent both Elam Road NW &NWU Extension #1 extending northeasterly across now Cheney Parkway NE – joining forces thereby with John Nolen whose heirs continue occupying said parcel even unto present day! In those preadolescent days many things were simply "unknown" or "untested". Many items found during archaeological excavations still remain undiscovered or undervalued because they could not be confirmed as historical artifacts without physical evidence such as coins, ceramics etc... ; so much so that some questions still linger years after any discovery has actually been made public knowledge - like how did these ancient cultures know howto build aqueducts? What kindof architecture existed longbefore recorded history? Why weren't any advanced technologies discovered until recently during scientific research?? How could primitive humans living behind big rocks build their own water systems 1,500 miles away from Terra Nullius ??? Some exciting answers yet remain !!

Junction City is a small city in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It has been around since 1854 when two locomotives collided while traveling on the same track. Junction City was named after the junction of the Santa Fe Railway and the Kansas Pacific Railroad. The first settlers to Junction City were John Sutherfield and his family who arrived in 1854. By 1870, there were six families living in Junction City. In 1881, Junction City had a school for white children and a black teacher; however, it remained a rural community until 1907 when the town began to grow rapidly due to its proximity to Wichita. The first store opened in Junction City in 1907 and by 1911 there were 10 businesses operating within the town limits. In 1915, Junction City became an incorporated city with a mayor and council; however, it would not become truly successful until after World War II when it experienced rapid growth due to its location as an important transportation hub between Wichita and Topeka. During World War II, much of what is now downtown was built as part of Project Nojo which rebuilt Wichita after damage caused by bombing raids; during this time also many jobs were created within downtown which helped contribute to increased traffic congestion that plagued later years. After World War II ended, Junction City experienced increasing growth until the early 1990s when it reached its current level of popularity because of its lucrative job market and easy access to Interstate 70 which led to rapid expansion throughout downtown along with new development on both sides of I-70 including several high-end malls which have continued to thrive even into today's economy. Today, Junction City is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Johnson County thanks largely to its history as an important transportation hub dating back more than 200 years and its wealth from job opportunities available throughout downtown which have continue unchanged over that time period
