It is named after General George Armstrong Custer. Gardner is located at (39.866766, -95.903409). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Gardner has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on account of its location near the eastern edge of the Great Plains area and its lack of significant mountains or desertification. The town fills up with farmers who raise crops such as corn, beans, wheat, oats and sorghum; cattle ranchers who graze their animals on open ranges; and some families that have moved into the community from other parts of Cowley County since it was formed in 1881. In recent years there have been several churches established here: First Baptist Church which opened in 1915 and still services today; Second Methodist Church which built in 1951; and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary which opened in 1984. It's also home to one of Gardner's two public schools- Harding High School where students attend for ninth through twelfth grades along with McCracken Intermediate School located just east of town off U.S Highway 169/Kansas State Road 316A (west side of main street). There are also several private schools including North Central Academy which opened in 2006 and offers Pre-Kindergarten through grade 6; Golden Heart Christian School which opened in 2001; Willowbrook Preparatory Academy closed down but reopened as Willowbrook Elementary School under new leadership late last year ; Stroudsburg Area Vocational Technical Center (SAVTC) closed down but reopened as Gardner Junior College late last year . Most important for Gardner residents is what's called "Main Street". This corridor runs north-south past all the businesses on Main Street from U.S Highway 169/Kansas State Road 316A (east side of main street) to Guthrie Road/Upper Barton Spring Creek (north side). This artery provides access to grocery stores such as Walmart just south of town on Guthrie Road while various restaurants dot Main Street starting at Seventh Heaven Coffee House across from Harding HS before winding its way back around to Butler Carbide Company across from SAVTC before terminating at downtown Lambert Elementary School lot off US Hwy 169/Harding HS' east sidewalk

Gardner, Kansas is a small town located in Kay County, Kansas. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. Gardner was founded by people from eastern Pennsylvania in 1867. It was named for General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the American Civil War and died of a fever at Fort Washakie in Dakota Territory on July 14, 1876. The first store opened in Gardner in 1868 and it was the only store until the opening of the present day store on Main Street in 1922. The original post office was called Haltom City and it served as such until 1959 when Gardner became its own town government. The first school opened in 1865 and it remained an attendance free school until 1951 when it became part of Douglas High School. In 1907 there were six businesses with a total payroll of $5,722. The most recent business to open is the Post Office which had its grand opening on September 3rd of this year. There has been no significant change to Gardner's economy since its establishment except for a general increase over time in manufacturing jobs throughout the area due to changes brought about by technology such as computer-aided design (CAD). There are many reminders of early days including but not limited to: two massive sandstone blocks still standing outside of town; an 1880s blacksmith shop that still stands; evidence left behind from building construction such as nails used during roofing work; and various other items that date back to when Gardner was established as a stop along what is now Interstate 25. One particularly intriguing item is an old stagecoach wreck discovered near town which once served as local transportation between Guthrie and Topeka during travel times between those towns which ranged anywhere from one hour to four hours!
