Marines from the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines stationed at Naval Air Station Anacostia served as the center of attention for local residents and visitors who came to admire their service. The gift history here began with a donation by Captain John A. Rolfe in 1940. That year, he made an anonymous donation of $1,000 to the Marine Welfare Association in order to provide basic needs for troops Deployed overseas. From then on, every Marine battalion contributed money or goods to support military families back home. Throughout the war years, each battalion donated items such as food, clothes and toys for children living abroad or those stationed at home. Gifts also went towards purchasing munitions and equipment for marine units fighting in Japan and Europe. In 1945, when peace returned to the world after World War II, the Marines cleaned up their mess and disbanded at Naval Air Station Anacostia on December 15th 1946. Gardner, Kansas is a town located in the US state of Kansas. According to the 2010 census, the population of Gardner was 1,929. The first settler in Gardner was James A. Gardner on July 14, 1851. He and his wife Anna built a cabin at what is now mile marker 5 on Davis Road. The post office was established in 1853 and became known as Garnet City. The first school in Gardner was opened in 1854 by Mrs. Hilda Andrews and taught reading, writing, arithmetic and geometry to children from neighboring townships. In 1861, present-day Gardner was incorporated as a town by an act of the Kansas Legislature. As part of that incorporation process, Gardner's first mayor was Hiram Sells Dodge. In 1895, Harry Ladd founded the Americana Furniture company which produced furniture from local cedar lumber for export to other countries including Europe and Asia In 1907 extensions were added to both sides of Center Street between First Avenue and Main Street; this gave rise to the current name "Garnet City." In 1922 a new high school building (built with funds provided by Harry Ladd) replaced an earlier wooden schoolhouse which had been damaged by a tornado during World War I That same year also saw the opening of Garnet Mall which served as one of downtown's original commercial businesses until it closed its doors in 2003 .[1] The mall currently houses several restaurants/cafes/bars as well as two Department stores concessions: Marshalls and JCPenney .[2][3] In 1969 Wichita resident Forrest Gump made international headlines when he appeared on-screen wearing nothing but boots for the entire program due to his refusal to take off his clothes for publicity purposes . After making national news across America (and eventually being featured on numerous television shows), Gump moved permanently to Wichita where he continues today as an advocate for fitness & health education

Gardner, Kansas is a small town located in the eastern part of the US state of Kansas. It was founded by Horace Gardner in 1854 as a result of the Wabash River Massacre. The massacre took place on July 14, 1854 when United States Cavalry forces were raiding an Indian village near present-day Gardner. Three people were killed and ten others were injured, including Gardner himself. The incident has been commonly cited as one of the most notorious massacres in US history. The town was named after Horace Gardner because he donated land to it and until recently, it was the only community in Kanzas County that bore his name. Over time, other towns and villages have been founded within its boundaries, but Gardner remains one of the most prominent residents of this small town today. In 1955, Gardner was chosen as the site for a new military installation known as Fort Rileyrophontein (later Fort Riley). Designed to provide security for Wichita County during World War II, this facility served as an important base for American troops throughout the war. Today it is home to both National Guard units and Army Reserve units as well as a number of recreational activities such as soccer and basketball games.
