The first coffee shop in Garden City, Kansas opened its doors in 1907. The business was run by an Italian immigrant couple, Luigi and Rosa Mazza. The Mazzas were the first to open a grocery store on what is now Main Street in Garden City. In 1915, the Mazza family sold their business to Harry Satterfield. Satterfield ran the business until it closed its doors in 1957. At that time, Garden City's only coffee shop was located on Third Street between Main and Hickory Streets. Since then, there have been several different businesses that have operated within the boundaries of Garden City proper. In 2006, gardencitycoffeeandcreamsopeneduponthe cornerofMainandHickory StreetsinGardenCity. This is considered to be the first outlet of its kind in town and has been serving up fresh-ground coffee since 2007. On July 2nd of this year, another new coffee shop called 'Coffee Bean' opened up just off US-1 north of town at exit 287B on Old Hwy 169 near mile marker 25 (just outside of Topeka). This establishment offers customers a wide variety of espresso drinks as well as bagels and muffins made with local produce from our farmstead.'
