The first café was located on First Avenue and it served a variety of drinks including chocolate milk and hot dogs. Coffee shops quickly became an important part of the community and over time, they evolved into what we know today as cafes. In 1990, the first roastery opened in Emporia and has been serving high-quality coffee ever since. Emporia, Kansas is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas and the county seat of Emporia County. The population was 946 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Topeka–Athletic Junction, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Emporia was Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto in 1541. A sawmill built by Nicholas Perry in 1814 became an important center for lumber production although it closed down during the Panic of 1837. However, a wagon road from Independence was completed in 1836 and served as a link between Missouri andKansas City until it was destroyed by Indian raiders in 1848. When this route became the Santa Fe Trail, Emporia grew rapidly as people journeyed to sell goods along its route. In 1865, when Kansas Territory was created, Emporia became its capital; but because Topeka had already become the territorial capital, it remained that way until 1907 when Kansas Statehood caused Topeka to become the new state capital. In 1907, two new municipalities were formed within Emporia County: Fort Riley (later called West Liberty) on the east side of town and Garden Grove on the west side (although they both retained their names). These villages were established because Topeka didn't have enough residents to support two townships – Delaware and Garden Grove – so they were combined into one municipality named after each village respectively. The merger made more sense since both communities were growing quickly while Fort Riley had been around since before topekanhood even existed! Today, there are over 20 businesses located within downtown Emporia which include banks such as Farmers & Merchants Bank (founded 1912), First National Bank (1893), Independent Mercantile Bank (1912), Northwest National Bank (1898), Chase Manhattan Banking Company (1979), Wells Fargo & Co., Incorporated (1956) and United States Trust Company-Kansas City Branch (1921). The most popular entertainment within downtown Emporia includes live music events held throughout the year including Oktoberfest celebration festivals headlined by nationally known artists like Garth Brooks and Willie Nelson as well as smaller local shows every few weeks or so organized by various groups like art galleries, dance clubs etc.. There are also several annual operating dog races sanctioned by local organizations that attract thousands spectators annually! Downtown also features several large shopping malls with varying levels of merchandise selection including Sears Holdings Corporation's(SHC) Sears Tower - home to Sears department store - Kmart Marketplace - anchored by Macy's department store - JCPenney Marketplace - anchor tenant Home Depot - Lord & Taylor Department Store - Fifth Avenue Shopping Center which anchors Regal Cinemas across from Interstate 70/ 64/ 55 which contains AMC theaters focusing primarily on horror movies! As mentioned earlier Downtown has multiple large shopping malls with varied levels of merchandise selection however some exceptions being Kmart Marketplace which only has items offered at Sears Tower while Fifth Avenue Shopping Center does not have any anchor stores other than AMC theaters making it a less dense shopping area overall

Emporia was founded by the Linn family in 1854. The original town was located on the southeast corner of present day Emporia and Fourth streets. In 1855, the Linns moved to what is now Billingsley Road and began developing their new town. By 1860, the population had swollen to over 100 people and a school was built. The town grew quickly, but due to its remote location it could not easily be served byroads or railroads. This lack of connectivity led to some problems during the early years of Emporia's growth: residents were unable to get around without traveling miles out of their way. In 1861, a bridge was built over the Kansas River in order to connect Emporia with Wichita. This move helped increase trade between the two towns and helped spur economic development in both locations. With more transportation options available, people began moving into Emporia from all corners of Kansas. Over time, however, basic needs such as water and food became increasingly difficult to obtain outside of downtown areas due to limited supplies available at local farms or markets. The late 1800s also saw a boom in farming in central Missouri; this caused an influx of farmers into Kansas who desired access to fertile land that had been left uncultivated for decades. As a result, prices for goods grown near Central Square started dropping while Prices for items within city limits went up; this created tension between those living inside City Limits and those who wished they could live anywhere but within walking distance of Centralsquare (but still able to purchase most essentials). Despite these challenges throughout his life Governor James Prentice pushed for heavy industrialization within central Missouri so that resources would be more evenly distributed across America which would benefit everyone involved including farmers living outside City Limits who wanted access to those same resources but did not have enough money or political powerazinationi ("the powers that be"). Unfortunately for Central Square dwellers, Factory production stoppedenburg after World War I when many companies moved out west because there were no new jobs waiting for them back east (a phenomenon known as "the Great Depression"). Despite all these setbacks though, Mayor Harry Heard remains credited as being one of central Missouri's earliest advocates for wealth redistribution through corporations which he called "the modern form[ing]of socialism." When he died suddenly in 1965 his legacy lives on thanks largely to plans put together by his successor Art Henneman-Tookey which aimed at redeveloping Central Square into an urban center focused on cultural attractions instead ofmerely extracting value from property).
