They developed an intense promotion of their own brand that helped to make their product known throughout the region. Not only did they sell their own beans, but they also contracted with other roasters to produce specific blends or coffees for their stores’ shelves. The City of Emporia was established on November 3, 1867 by AugustusBelmont after he moved from Topeka to start the town on the banks of the Missouri River adjacent to what is now downtown Wichita Falls, Texas (now Wichita County). The date should not be confused with November 3rd in general American history or British law where that day would have been different due to different calendar systems used then; however it did become an official United States Town Day on this date in 1923 according to local historian Don Freeman In 1890 when Emporia recorded its first census it had a population of just over 100 residents On July 1st 1912 Charlie Carpenter became Mayor and served until his death in 1914 Kansas City Star-Journal reported: "One summer evening last year – one which will live long in memory – an event occurred that made history in this small community .... A group of men met at their clubhouse near Western Union Telegraph Company Building…to organize themselves into a town government." On July 1st 1912 Charlie Carpenter became Mayor effective July 1st 1912 following his election victory over incumbent C H Hawley . After serving 2 terms as mayor Carpenter died suddenly from a heart attack at age 67 years old making him only the 5th person everMayor Of Emporia

After being bought by a Dutchman in 1858, this plantation continued to be used until 1886. During its time as an importance cotton plantation, Emporia also played an important role in railroad development in Kansas. The town served as both a terminus and depot for many trains traveling between Wichita and Topeka. Additionally, during its time as an importance cotton plantation, Emporia also saw some significant urban growth. In 1857, when Governor James Buchanan appointed Judge John Denny to chair a Commission on Railroads and Public Works within his cabinet, Denny recommended that Emporia become part of the newKansas City Railway System (KC RR). This recommendation led to rapid growth within the town; by 1870, Emporia had grown to over 10,000 people。 After years of growth within Emporia and KC RR’s jurisdiction came contention over land usage within both towns limits; this contention eventually led to violence which erupted into open warfare in 1871 known as “The Lumber War” (). Once again though KC RR's jurisdiction would guarantee peace outside of town limits while still allowing commerce inside; this balance would not exist again until 1889 when another race-based conflict developed known as “The Grain War” (). Throughout its history there have been multiple conflicts with other settlements in what is now Kansas about land usage or access to resources (); however these disputes are rarerelativetotheintensityandfrequencyoftown-related disputes throughout history
