In 1892, a man by the name of George Washington Hill started to grow coffee beans in what is now known as El Dorado Hills. Today, we still enjoy some of the best El Dorado coffee around.
El Dorado is a small town located in Johnson County, Kansas, United States. The population was 10 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1868 by white men who were looking for a place to settle after being driven out of their home of Wichita by Native Americans. The first post office was established in El Dorado on October 7, 1868. The name "El Dorado" was given to the town because it resembled an image found on a gold prospecting trip through Kansas that year. The early settlers were mostly farmers and ranchers with few people engaged in manufacturing or trade. In 1902, the Wichita-based Topeka Railroad came to El Dorado and began operating passenger service from there to Topeka and other towns in western Johnson County. As passenger service dwindled, freight service also grew important; by 1907, El Dorado had become one of Topeka's busiest commercial districts. In 1912, when Topeka merged into the Chicago Union Pacific Railway as part of its nationwide expansion program, El Dorado became one of its many new railway communities along the line. By this time, however, most residents had moved away and most businesses had closed down; only a handful remain today including Main Street grocery store (now named Midtown Market), bank (now First Interstate Bank), hardware store (now hardware chain Home Depot), and several homes built during the late 20th century as part of efforts to revive downtown business once again. In recent years some local proponents have been working to bring attention back to downtown El Dorado while others are fighting for city funding for redevelopment plans that would see much more upscale housing developments built near Main Street instead of used buildings currently serving as community hubs and tourist attractions only for locals and occasional tourists visiting from out-of-state visitors or those with no desire or ability to live inside such an admittedly rare opportunity within their own backyard! Downtown Business Improvement District membership dues currently sit at $25/year which includes access to meeting rooms upstairs where they can discuss any issues affecting ELDORADO & surrounding areas!
The history of coffee is vast and complex. The first beans were roasted on small farms in the Arabian Peninsula around 1000 BC. Coffee was originally brewed for religious purposes, such as to make a sacrament. In 1795, French explorers discovered Java (now Indonesia) and began trading with the locals. They brought back some of the world's first coffee beans, which were roasted and sold by traders in Paris. In 1825, Dutch traders started trading with Java andBali and acquired some of the world's earliest coffee trees. From here, they began making their own coffee beans and selling them throughout Europe. In 1886, Dutch trader Joris Dirks founded a company that became the world's largest coffee producer. He exported coffee all over the world until his death in 1938. During World War II, Dutch espresso maker Jan Pauw bought nearly all of Indonesian coffee production so he could ensure that Netherlands would have top-quality coffee during wartime shortages. After the war ended, Pauw resumed producing Indonesian coffees but stopped exporting them because he no longer felt confident about their quality control system. In 1957,Dutch entrepreneurs reopened Pauw's company as an Arabica bean-growing cooperative called Nescafe SA). At this point in its history, Nescafe had become one of the largest roasters in the world; it still produces high-quality Arabica beans today (and also makes two types of latte beverages: Americano/Robusta and Cappuccino/Pista). Today’s Nescafe has more than 100 employees worldwide who roast more than 2 million cups of premium ground espresso each day!
The first espresso machine was built by Luigi Bezzera in 1875. It used a small water bath and coffee beans were ground into a powder.
El Dorado, Kansas is a small town in Shawnee County, Kansas, United States. The population was 705 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita-Hutchinson metropolitan area. The first settlers to move to El Dorado were three families from Illinois who came there in 1854. They named their town after the city of Elda, Texas where they had been living for a year before coming to Kansas. A post office was established at El Dorado in 1857 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first store on the site of present day El Dorado was built by George Waddell and opened on July 25, 1859. Waddell operated it for eight years before selling it to John Sledge who operated it for twenty-one years until his death in 1883. In 1893, Jens Jensen bought Waddell's store and continued operating it until 1951 when it closed down due to lack of customers. In 1906, a school was built east of the current courthouse which remained open until 1959 when it burned down due to an electrical fire that also destroyed several homes near by.
The first white person to settle in El Dorado, Kansas was John Neely Bryan. He and his family arrived in 1867 from Illinois. The town of El Dorado was founded by him and other settlers in what is now old west Wichita County.
