The air force gift history in El Dorado, Kansas began in 1948 when the Kansas Air National Guard donated a C-47 Skytrain for use by the Wichita branch of the RAF. The aircraft was used for training and exercises with other branches of the military. In 1957, the air force gifted another C-47 skytrain to El Dorado County Airport. This airplane was used for general aviation activities such as crop dusting and fly-bys of nearby cities. In 1969, a third C-47 skytrain was gifted to El Dorado County Airport by the airforce after it had been retired from service at Travis AFB in California. This plane served as storage/operational hangar until it was donated to the airport in 1997. Since then, this plane has been used as part of local flights by aircraft enthusiasts and locals alike.

El Dorado is a small town in Wyandotte County, Kansas, United States. The population was 573 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area and is the county seat of Wyandotte County. The first European to see what is now El Dorado was Juan de la Garza on his way from Mexico City to Santa Fe in 1540. He sighted an area that he called "Mendoza" (now Butte), but he thought it must be a mirage because there were no trees there. A year later, Miguel de Cervantes wrote about this region in his novel Don Quixote of La Mancha and he also mentioned El Dorado when encountering it for the first time on his way back from a trip to New Spain in 1545. In 1854, gold was discovered at Fort Riley near Topeka and soon afterward other mines were developed in what are now Wyandotte, Barton, Geary and Dallas counties. By 1861 most of present-day Wichita had been annexed by Topeka so that El Dorado became its primary commercial center due to its location midway between Wichita and Shawnee Mission (Kansas). In 1881 El Doradohad merged with Topeka Township to form Topeka City Hall Consolidation District No. 2 which functioned as the municipal government for all unincorporated areas east of I-435 until consolidation into Wichita city limits in 1907; however, school board meetings continued at El Dorado until 1903 when that body moved into separate buildings within Wichita's then new civic courthouse complex on Main Street between First Avenue and Eastern Boulevard after years offighting over property lines inside city limits; during World War II various stores closed their doors around town due to military enlistment restrictions placed upon Phoenix merchants by then Mayor David Hennen who felt they were taking advantage of local residents' lack of air-raid protection equipment) After annexing Hutchinson following establishment of Wichita city limits in 1907, Topeka City Hall began serving as both municipal government for all unincorporated areas west of I-435 until consolidation into Wichita city limits in 1907; however, school board meetings continued at El Dorador until 1903 when that body moved into separate buildings within Wichita's then new civic courthouse complex on Main Street between First Avenue and Eastern Boulevard after years offighting over property lines inside city limits; during World War II various stores closed their doors around town due to military enlistment restrictions placed upon Phoenix merchants by then Mayor David Hennen who felt they were taking advantage of local residents' lack Of air-raid protection equipment) In 1957 topsoil discoveries led producers such as Manuela Goldsmith & Sons Ltd., Phelps Dodge Corporation & San Miguel Corporation beginning developing large scale production with more than doubling wheat acreage under full sun since 1940s while others like Pan American Gold Fields Inc., Socony Morgan Stanley Mines Company doing some surface exploration only started producing starting 1969 . However these well known names did not start bringing people here until later when outlying towns such as Atchison started getting popularized especially given general attitudes towards TV series like Cheers which brought people downtown looking for entertainment rather than farming or working The 1996 movie Forrest Gump made this place even more popular so much so that today many people know about it outside just Kansas proper

When gold was found there in 1880, settlers startedcoming to El Dorado for the gold and other minerals that were being found nearby. The town reached its peak during World War II when it had a population of 4,000 people. However, following the war the population declined as many farmers left for other parts of the country. The last resident died in 2000. In recent years El Dorado has experienced a few renaissance moments with new developers coming on board and plans for development being announced for various areas of town including an airport and shopping center designed by starchitects Pritzker Prize-winner Rem Koolhaas and Renowned British architect Sir Norman Foster.
El Dorado, Kansas was a territory of the United States from 1867 until 1907. It was located in present-day Kansas and Nebraska. The area had been part of the Mexican Empire since at least 1821, when it was ceded to the United States by Mexico after the Mexican–American War. The first U.S. post office in El Dorado was established in 1867, and the first white settler arrived in 1870. By 1880, over 200 people lived in El Dorado County, most of them farmers or ranch hands. However, heavy investments by American businessmen led to rapid growth during the late 1800s and early 1900s, as mining operations resumed and new railroads came through the area. In 1907, after years of debate and vote on whether to annex more land into the United States or stay independent, El Dorado County became a U.S.-controlled territory under territorial laws passed that year by Congress.
