The National Football League's Dallas Cowboys played their first game in town on November 15, 1912 against local semipro football team Panhandle Athletic Club before moving to Arlington, Texas that year. Other professional teams that have called Dodge City home include baseball's Wichita Royals (1896-1910), ice hockey's Wichita Falcons (1960-1966), softball's Topeka Blue Sox (1968-1980), men’s basketball's Topeka State Hornets (1973-1978) and women’s basketball’s Wichita Jayhawks (1983-)
