Randall sent a shipment of presents to his friend and business partner, James A. Bemis, on Christmas Day 1892. The tradition continued with Marine Lieutenant Colonel Isaac P. Beall's sends of gifts during World War I and II. In the 1990s, Commander George Wamanthorpe offered Marines as gifts at the military appreciation dinner in Derby. Since then, Marines have often been sent as part of birthday or holiday Gifts for Kids programs by local businesses in Derby and surrounding towns.

Derby, Kansas is a small town in the U.S. state of Kansas and it is located on the eastern edge of the Great Plains. The population was 2,587 at the 2010 census. Derby was founded in 1868 by John Aiken and his brother-in-law George Stephenson as a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail. By 1901, Derby had become an agricultural center with 100 dairy vessels and 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of corn farming land. It became an important railroad junction in western Kansas during World War I, and also became one of the leading grain hubs in the Midwest after Prohibition ended in 1933. In 1940, Derby was renamed after its founder, John Aiken Jr., who had died nine years earlier. Derby's economy has been largely based on agriculture since its founding but it has also grown increasingly dependent on petroleum production for its energy needs; this has led to significant environmental concerns over oil spills and other environmental damage done by derby's Petroleum Refining Company (PRC). PRC also manufactures dozens of products used in everyday life such as plastics, detergents, toys and medical supplies. As a result of these concerns, Derby residents have taken to protesting against their company's operations for decades now.

Derby,Kansas is a small town in central Kansas that was founded in 1871. The town was named after Derby, England where a man by the name of David Denton settled in 1851. The first post office was established in 1872, and the first store opened in 1875. By 1901, the population had grown to 364 residents. The first school was built in Derby in 1886. In 1907, the city of Derby was incorporated as a result of an act passed by the Kansas Legislature. The population of Derby grew rapidly during World War I due to the influx of soldiers from surrounding states who were stationed at Fort Riley and other military posts near the town. In 1924, the local paper company merged with another paper company located in Topeka and became known as The Kansas City Star Company. After years of decline during the late 1940s through 1950s, Derby experienced a resurgence during the early 1960s as a result of new economic development which included several manufacturing plants operated by local companies such as PEP Products and Wichita-based Allied Signal Corporation (ASI). These new businesses attracted more immigrants to Derby and helped revive its economy which has continued to grow since then.
Derby, Kansas is a town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first permanent settlement in Derby was made on the east side of the Arkansas River by Nicholas Lyon and his family in 1854. This site was called Lakin's Ferry. A post office was established at Derby in January 1855, and remained in operation until it closed in December 1860. In 1861, John Tipton organized a company of militia to resist Confederate raiders who had invaded Kansas from Missouri.
