In 1870, when another act gave general land status to Indian Territory residents within Kansas limits, Derby became one of those towns. Education played a big role in derby's development during its Early settler days. A schoolhouse was built in 1871 and used until it burned down in 1907. A second school building was erected in 1909 and served as both schools until it also burned down in 1957. Both buildings still stand today as part of downtown derby's architecture museum called "The Old School House." In 1906-1907 an agricultural fair was held at which local farmers brought their products to town for sale. It is said that attendance at this fair helped spur development around what is now Main Street by providing opportunities for marketing and trade among locals as well as visitors from nearby towns. A water works project began in 1865 but not finished until 1904; this system provided potable water for all parts of derby including baths for people working outside or near the waterworks bucket stations where customers could draw water without having to get wetting their clothes or bringing buckets into account! This infrastructure helped support many years of heavy settlement growth while also creating jobs throughout township/municipality levels after 1905 when centralized plumbing became available statewide! During World War II, many French cafes turned to Arabica beans due to shortages of Robusta beans. As a result, some French artisans developed a unique preference for this type of bean over others - producing higher quality Arabic coffees than those produced by other countries. It was not until the early 1990s that Europeans began to appreciate Ethiopian and African-American-owned roasters who were dedicated to crafting exceptional cups of coffee from lower altitude originates like Guatemala and Ethiopia's Yirgacheffe region. In 1907, the towns of Derby and Hutchinson were merged into one village and it lost its independent status two years later when Hutchinson became the larger city. In 1920, the town council passed an ordinance that limited alcohol sales within its boundaries. The ordinance was repealed in 1927 after local businesses complained about the effect it had on their profits. Derby has had a variety of industries throughout its history including agriculture (primarily corn), manufacturing (steel products), and service (such as tourism).
