Derby, Kansas is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Metropolitan Statistical Area. Derby was founded in 1872 and named for Derby County in England. The first post office in Derby was established on December 6, 1872. The current post office building was erected in 1903. The town plat was filed on November 7, 1905. The first oil well located near Derby was drilled on November 25, 1907 by J C Goodyear and Brothers Oil Company with a production rate of 10 barrels per day. In 1912 the Sherman-Calloway railroad reached Derby from Wichita and it became an important transportation center for the area until 1955 when Interstate 66 replaced the rail line as the main route traveled through the area. During World War II, many people worked for Boeing Aircraft Corporation manufacturing airplanes at their plants in Wichita and Deer Park before returning to their homes to help contribute to victory in Europe or America's war effort. Many residents also served overseas during World War II including Lionel Hurd who enlisted with the US Army Air Forces at age 17 and flew combat missions over Nazi Germany as a bombardier/pilot; he later became one of America's top air disaster survivors with his most famous being his role as co-pilot on "The Great Lakes survial." After World War II ended many people decided to stay put and enjoy life outside of work or school; this trend continued into the 1960s when some families moved out of state while others retested their Iowa roots which they had left behind more than 50 years earlier when they were transplanted to what is now Sedgwick County after hearing about land available there from another family that had originated there originally from Kentucky but later moved back east where they took up farmership and ranchering although some still retain some English ancestry today through direct descent (e Plymouth purchase). Today even though many residents have chosen not to return home formally they are still very much part of society by hosting annual events such as country dances or fairs every year around Memorial Day weekend which continue long into next year (the third time this has happened consecutively) well into 2018 without fail!

Derby, Kansas is a town in Hays County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. Derby was founded in 1867 and named for Derby County, England. The first store in Derby was started by Simeon Farnsworth and his brother Lenny Farnsworth. The Farnsworth brothers were the first settlers in what is now Derby. They built a log cabin on the edge of town and began to trade goods with other farmers and ranchers around the area. In 1868, they opened a store on Main Street which continued to be run until it burned down in 1936. In 1870, John Wirth founded a flour mill near present-day Derby. John Wirth became one of the early settlers in this area and his mill produced flour for local markets as well as supplying flour to other towns in Hays County. In 1875, he added an oil refinery to his facility which helped increase production of oil products from Derby Township. The refinery remains active today and produces a variety of oils including gasoline and diesel fuel
Derby, Kansas is located in the United States and was founded on November 12, 1855. It is the second largest town in Kansas after Wichita. Derby was known as a cattle town until the early 1900s when it became an agricultural center. The city was renamed Derby in 1907 after its first mayor, Frank Derby.
