Coffeyville started as a farming community and now its economy is based on tourism and retail trade. The first coffee beans were grown in this area in 1876 by James Caldwell and others from Wichita, Kansas. In 1896, Harry Jaffe bought land northeast of Coffeyville and began growing coffeebeans for shipment to Chicago.By 1912, coffee had become an important part of the local economy and Coffeyville became known as "the Coffee Capital of the World".In 1916-1917, two years after WWI ended, the US military stationed troops here for training purposes during World War I; these soldiers are credited with helping start Coffeyville's coffee industry. After the war ended, many German immigrants came to America looking for new opportunities; they started a grocery store in downtown Coffeyville that continues today as one of the biggest businesses in town. The first Starbucks opened its doors in 1984 in nearby Topeka; it quickly became popular among locals and tourists alike for its delicious espresso drinks and unique design features. Today Starbucks operates over sixty stores worldwide including eleven locations located within six miles of Coffeyville!

Coffeyville is a small town in Douglas County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Topeka–Asheville, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coffeyville was founded in 1881 by John Coffey and his brother-in-law, W. H. Armstrong as a post office on the east bank of the Arkansas River. The first store in Coffeyville was built by George Hildebrandt and opened in 1881. In 1885, the post office moved to its present location on Main Street. The community developed around two churches: First Presbyterian and Second Baptist Churches were both built in 1886 and remain standing today. The first school was opened in 1889 and continued operating until 1906 when it closed due to financial problems. A new school building was constructed in 1912 and it continues to serve as the local schools' Presentation Christian School today. In 1951, Coffeyville became an incorporated village under the name "Coffeyville". That same year saw the opening of Interstate 70 through Duffield Township which bypassed Coffeyville and made it necessary for all businesses within town limits to move to their original Post Office Building on Main Street which had been abandoned since that time because of cost overruns with I-70 construction! Today's economy relies heavily upon agriculture; corn Kernel production being one of primary industries accounting for over 60% of total product sales statewide during July 2009 according to information from Kansas Agricultural Marketing Board (KAMP). Manufacturing also remains a major focus with several small businesses existing within Coffeyville Village limits manufacturing various items such as plumbing supplies, home improvement products etcetera
The history of Tactical Coffee is a long and sometimes convoluted one. There are many different cups that have been brewed with coffee, but the first known coffee brewing device was an oven in 1795. The first recorded use of espresso was made in 1804 by Giovanni Battista Pasta in Rome. In 1916, Luigi Bezzerini created the first automatic espresso machine, which he called the “Bezzerini Automatic Machine”. In 1930, Angelo de Benedetti developed a process for roasting coffee beans that would create a more complex flavor profile than earlier methods. This new roast process became known as “Barroco” and it continued to be used until the early 1970s when it was replaced by the French Roast method. In 1984, Carlo Ancelotti introduced the Italian Roast method into Starbucks Coffee Company and this became popularized throughout North America. Today, Tactical Coffee products are available at most Starbucks locations across the United States and Canada.
One of the first tactical coffee shops in the United States was The Coffee Shop on Second Avenue in New York City. It was opened by Dave Friedman, who also founded David's Gourmet Coffee. In 1975, The Coffee Shop moved to 425 Broadway in Manhattan and changed its name to "The Green Hornet". In 1978, Bob Baer opened his own coffee shop at 1005 Market Street in Philadelphia. That same year, Terry Butcher opened his first café called Butcher & Bee at 2131 14th Street NW in Washington D.C. The first Starbucks opened its doors on December 5, 1984, at 8am inside the Howard University library on campus in Washington D.C..
Coffeyville was founded by the Coffey family in 1859. The community is named for John Coffey, a local landowner who donated the land for the town. A post office was established in 1865, and the town grew steadily until it reached its peak during World War I. However, after the war, Coffeyville declined rapidly and only briefly regained its former prosperity. Today, it remains a small farming community with a handful of businesses and a few families. Coffeyville’s history begins with its location on high ground overlooking what is now Topeka. For many years, it served as an important military installation providing shelter for troops traveling to and from Kansas City. In addition to its strategic location, Coffeyville also boasted excellent amenities such as schools, churches, and hospitals. This wealth attracted settlers who built prosperous homes around the town square. The first residents of Coffeyville were farmers who supplemented their incomes by raising livestock and haying hay on their property. By 1920, however, most of these pioneers had moved away or died due to natural disasters such as hurricanes or floods that struck the area frequently during that decade. Eventually succumb to economic hardship (the Great Depression hit hard across much of America), many members of the Coffeyville community lost all their property within 15 years of incorporation (1930). Many residents fled to Topeka or otherlarger cities in search of better opportunities during this difficult time period; however, some chose to stay behind and rebuild what little remained of their communities throughout the 1930s-1960s."

In 1875, the town was incorporated and it became one of the most important towns in southeastern Kansas. The town's growth led to its incorporation as a city in 1907. During World War I, Coffeyville played an important role as a munitions manufacturer and served as headquarters for General John J. Pershing's forces during their campaign against the Ottoman Empire. After World War I, the town declined and went into decline until it regained its Former prominence after passage of Acts 4-5 providing funding for revitalization projects in 2006-2007
