The Coffeyville Coast Guard Station was established in 1912. The present station is located on the bluff overlooking the Missouri River. The original buildings were constructed in 1916 on land donated by Mrs. Nellie Gentry. In 1938, a new station was built on the current site and named for Capt. J.C. Coffey Jr., who served with the Coast Guard from 1922 to 1951. In 1978, a gift of $1 million was made to help improve the station facilities and equipment including a radar system, which has been used to track ships and provide warnings during hurricanes season since 1984. In 2006, a gift of $3 million was made to improve safety measures at the station as well as purchase new boats and other stationary assets needed for patrols along the Missouri River corridor between Kansas City, Mo., and Wichita, Kan., including areas near Stroudsburg, Pa.; Topeka; Atchison; Santa Fe; Liberal; Mission; Emporia; Osborne Village; Garden City; Shawnee Mission Hills ; Overland Park This money has also been used to purchase an armored vehicle which replaced an old truck that had broken down several times over time In 2015, another gift of $5 million was given in order to purchase three additional patrol boats as well as associated gear for each boat
Coffeyville is located in the eastern part of Kansas, about 25 miles northeast of Topeka. The population was 1,702 at the 2010 census. Coffeyville is a small town with a focus on agriculture and ranching. It was founded in 1867 by J.W. Coffey and named after his father, Daniel Coffey. Coffeyville has a variety of businesses that provide services to its citizens, including banks, insurance companies, pharmacies, and transportation providers. Agriculture is the mainstay of Coffeyville's economy; cattle are the primary production animals here. Some of the most important crops grown here include corn, beans, wheat, soybeans, and oats. The community is home to one high school (Coffeyville East), one middle school (Coffeyville West), and two elementary schools (Fenton-Kearny and Snyder). Coffeyville is a town in Riley County, Kansas, United States. The population was 1,921 at the 2010 census. The Coffeyville post office was established in 1881, and was renamed Coffeyville in 1902. The first store on the site of today's town was built by John Coffey in 1884. The first school in town was organized in 1886. A sawmill was built southeast of town near present-day Elmira on the same site where the current courthouse is located. In 1889, J.E. Pettit donated land to build a Methodist church and cemetery there which still stands today. In 1903, a water wheel became operational power for the first electric lights in Coffeyville when an outlet went into service around that time from Union Electric Supply Company next door to what is now the high school building. That same year also saw construction ofwhat is now the Civic Center complex with additions including a theater and library over time until its demolition in 1978-79 as part of Riley County's comprehensive redevelopment plan which included moving all county offices to new buildings throughout the county seat area It wasn't until 1959 when Coffeyville had its own ZIP code when it ceded its former position as an unincorporated community within Riley County to become a full city within it through incorporation under similar name change with different boundaries - currently known as Topeka due to its larger metropolitan area size - making it one of only two cities (the other being Wichita) in Kansas having both city status and ZIP code 000000001 .
Coffeyville was founded in 1854 as a small town in the Mexican state of Coahuila. After the American Civil War, it became a Uniontown and continued to grow until it was incorporated as a city in 1907. The population reached 20,000 by 1920, and 50,000 by 1930. Coffeyville became an important center for agriculture and commerce during the early years of the 20th century, and its industries included machine shops, cheese factories, printing plants and other businesses. In 1955, Coffeyville experienced its first major tornado outbreak when several destructive tornadoes struck the city.
