Coffeyville is named after John Coffey, who donated land to the town. The first post office in Coffeyville was established in 1854. The first store was built in 1860 and the first school was built in 1868. In 1907, the town moved from its original location east of Ulysses to its current site west of Ulysses. In 1899, Seward Bros., a clothing company, started up shop in Coffeyville and became one of the most successful businesses in Osborne County. One of Seward Bros.'s successors, also named Seward Bros., continued operations until it merged with JCPenney Incorporated in 1982. Today there are several small businesses that continue to operate within the boundaries of Coffeyville including: First National Bank (founded 1865), Shoe Mart (opened 1922), Hardware Store #2 (opened 1954), and Veterinary Clinic ( opened 1988). A variety of festivals are organized throughout the year including country music concerts at various venues throughout the community; carnival games; bicycle races; arts and crafts shows; football games during summer months; Model UN competitions; Harvest Festival on October 15th each year.; Presbyterian services held each fall.; and Susie's Chili Party every May 30th for all ages!

Coffeyville is a small town in Sedgwick County, Kansas, United States. The population was 710 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Coffeyville were John Coffey and his family who arrived in 1856 from Ohio. They set up a farm about three miles (4 km) east of present-day Coffeyville on the left bank of the Arkansas River. From this location they began to trade goods with the Osage Indians and others in what is now northeastern Kansas. In 1863, John Coffey's son David caught a disease from an animal on their farm and died; his father buried him there near modern day Coffeyville. In 1868, Edwin Potter built a log cabin near where he now lives northwest of town on land that had been part of Joshua Granger's Donation Land Claim #2 north of Wichita Falls established by US President James K. Polk in 1846 as part of eastern Kansas Territory acquired by US when Mexico ceded its southern territory to America during the Mexican–American War. The first post office was established at Potter Cabin in 1870; it was moved to its current site northeast of town in 1924. The railroad reached Coffeyville through Wichita Falls on September 15,1875, making it one of only two small towns along the line open for passenger service before it closed down permanently December 1, 1865 due to financial problems with its charter partner – Northern Pacific Railroad Company – within weeks of each other much like many other railway companies throughout America at that time during difficult times caused by inflationary forces related to an overall general economic recession known as "the Great Depression". AfterNorthern Pacific Railroad Company folded operations came into being various new interests such as Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway which bought NP stock for $1 million cash (in 1914), but only leased track west from Wichita Falls until 1947 when they merged into UP Airlines company with all equipment becoming associated with Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway property including some 400 buildings - all now inside Wichita Falls limits - following their purchase thereof by Republic Airways Corporation parent entity Republic Broadcasting Corporation effective January 1st 1948 having been ordered by then President Harry S Truman following public pressure generated over competing commercial air service offered primarily by American Telephone & Telegraph Company operating out OFDATA fields outsideOfWichitaFalls Limits after AT&T sold most OFDATA properties back to ATC effective July 24th 1946 resulting In competition With American Telephone & Telegraph Company offering services OutsideOFWichitaFalls Limits prior To That date This Offering Of Service Wasn't Seen As Too Much Of A Competition And Government Officials Were All Overnight Bribed By His predecessor Franklin D Roosevelt Who Also Owned American Telephone & Telegraph Company Prior To That Date
Coffeyville was founded in 1867 by James Coffey. The town grew rapidly and soon had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1882, the city was renamed Coffeyville after General Andrew Coffey, the first white settler in the area. The city continued to grow and by 1903 had a population of over 4,000 people. However, during World War I Coffeyville was forced to close its doors due to lack of food supplies.
