In 2010, Marines sent a gift to then-Mayor Rick Wagoner for his role in supporting the community during their deployments in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2016, Marines sent a gift to Mayor Donny Youngblood for his work on behalf of the city during their deployments in Kuwait and Qatar. In 2017, marines sent a gift to Mayor Jeff Long for his work on behalf of the city during their deployments in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. In 2018, marines sent a gift to Mayor Darrell Moseley for his work on behalf of the city during their deployments in Egypt and Oman.

On Dec. 15, 1903, the Marines of Company A, 2nd Battalion, 10th Marines Regiment deployed to Arkansas City as part of a unit deployment to the Western States Crusade. The Marines of Company A visited Fort Hays and other military installations in Kansas before departing on December 17 for their primary target, Santa Fe Barracks in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The regiment arrived at the garrison on December 21 and began preparations for winter quarters. The Marines participated in various maneuvers throughout the winter months and conducted artillery training during early January 1904. On January 20th, they relieved the 1st Battalion 9th Marines Regiment at Santa Fe Barracks after which they left for their secondary target: Pecos Barracks near Albuquerque. They arrived at Pecos on February 6th and were engaged in combat operations against Mexican bandits that lasted until March 8th when they withdrew back to Pecos to rest and re-supply themselves with supplies. In April 1904, Company A was reassigned to Camp Dodge where they participated in amphibious assaults against both Lubbock Heights and Canyon de Chelly Arsenal facilities while also conducting artillery drills from May through November. In October 1904, they returned to San Antonio where they join up with other Marine units participating in an amphibious assault against Corpus Christi Naval Base as part of Operation Crossroads II along with boats from USS "New York" (CV-4) and USS " Texas" (BB-48). They successfully disembarked ashore on December 14th before withdrawing back across the Rio Grande into Texas on Christmas day 1904

Arkansas City is a small city in Kansas, located on the Arkansas River. It was founded in 1854 as the seat of Pratt County and became a town in 1887. The city was named for Arkansas City, Missouri, which was then part of Pratt County. The first settlers to the area were white men from Ohio who came overland through Nebraska Territory in search of new land to farm. They arrived at what is now Arkansas City on July 20, 1854. The original inhabitants were Indian traders and their families who had been living there for some time before that. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the river and its access to water resources. By 1862, it had a population of around 400 people and by 1865 it had reached 1,000 people. In 1887, Pratt County merged with neighboring Hopkins County to form Newton County. As a result of this merger, Arkansas City became part of Newton County too. During World War II, Arkansas City played an important role in the war effort because it was one of two military facilities within Newton County (the other being Holland). The city also played host to General Dwight D Eisenhower's presidential campaign stop during his 1948 run for president. In recent years, the economy has declined due to decreases in mining and oil production throughout Kansas but has since stabilized thanks to increased tourism and job opportunities outside of Wichita Falls Texas
