The Arkansas City, Kansas Air Force Base is the home of the 4th Wing, which is responsible for providing security for the Airmen and civilians on I-80. The base also houses two large active duty flying fields used by United States Air Force (USAF) fighter pilots and bombers during air-to-air combat exercises. These two fields are known as the “Big Field” and the “Little Field.” In addition to these active duty areas, there are numerous parkland areas located around town that can be used for military events or training purposes. The history of air force deployed gifts begins with World War II when America entered into what was then called “the war to end all wars.” Aircraft manufacturers in both countries were producing more planes than they could keep up with demand, so contracts were given to companies in other countries to make planes specifically for America’s military needs. One such company was Boeing who produced the B-24 Liberator bomber. This plane had a long list of features unique to it such as a turret on top that could fire cannons or machineguns, an armored cockpit, and a range of different engines that gave it a high speed and agility compared to other bombers at its time. During World War II, Arkansas City became one of several communities in Kansas designated as an Air Forces Training Center (AFTC). At AFBKCN, pilots from all over the world would train under local command before being sent off to fight in conflicts throughout Europe and Asia. In 1946, after years of growth at AFBKCN, it was decided that AAC would become its own wing within United States Air Force (USAF). The wing was named 4th Wing after General Curtis LeMay who played a significant role in developing American aviation during World War II.General LeMay served as commander of USAF Tactical Air Command from 1951 until his retirement in 1957. He left behind an impressive legacy including creating centralized control over American fighters forces within NATO which led to American victory against Germany during the Second World War

The Arkansas City, Kansas Air Force Base gift history began in 1954 when the United States Air Force stationed an A-2C Dragonfly at the base. The aircraft was given to the city as a goodwill gesture. It was retired from service in 1978 and is still on display at the airport today.
Arkansas City, Kansas (population: over 100,000) is a city in the U.S. state of Kansas. It is the county seat of Johnson County and is located on the Arkansas River east of Topeka. The population was 105,574 at the 2010 census. The first settler in Arkansas City was George Waring in 1868. The city was founded by Andrew Dickson in 1872 as an agricultural center for the area around Topeka and Lawrence Counties to the north and east. In 1902, it became a town when itslying villages were annexed into the city limits. It renamed itself after John Fenton Chase, Jr., who had been governor of Kansas from 1880 to 1883 and who had donated land for the city cemetery. In 2000, Arkansas City established itself as an international trade center with several businesses devoted tocommerce including an airport, a convention center, two banks/credit unions, a retail mall and several restaurants and bars. The city also has plans to build a new downtown museum which would include interactive exhibits on various aspects of American history such as slavery and Reconstructionism

Arkansas City is a city in Clay County, Kansas, United States. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita metropolitan area. The first settlers in Arkansas City were three men from Illinois: William Davenport, Augustus Chapman, and John Brown. They arrived on July 4, 1849, and set up a cabin near where the current courthouse now stands. The first town meeting was held on October 15 of that year to organize themselves as a town. They named their new settlement for General Andrew Johnson, who had been president during the Mexican–American War. The city's growth began slowly but steadily over the next few decades. In 1875, it boasted a population of just twenty-one people; by 1901 it had become one of the largest cities in Kansas with a population of 3264 residents. By 1907, its size had reached 6500 inhabitants—making it one of the largest cities in America at that time and making it also one of the most important centers for industry and commerce within Wichita Metropolitan Area (which at that time included all of Wichita County). In 1939 Arkansas City became an incorporated city following approval by Missouri voters; however its citizens voted to retain their village form of government until 1959 when they overwhelmingly approved passage of an ordinance increasing their voting power to make them “a separate political subdivision” with full civil rights similar to those enjoyed by other municipalities within Wichita Metropolitan Area (i.e., without limitation on economic development or zoning authority). This change made Arkansas City into one of Wichita's most powerful downtowns as well as an important center for trade and industry within the larger metropolitan area. In recent years decline has not been able to stem this heavy investment from many businesses which have seen success including expanding into online sales channels as well as various service sector jobs such as software engineering etc.; nor has annexation by neighboring towns such as Overland Park which continue to seek annexation regardless of Ark City's declining status
Arkansas City was founded in 1855 by French Canadians, and became the capital of the Kansas Territory. It became an American city on October 24, 1907. The population of Arkansas City was 9,500 when it was made an official U.S. city.
