The United States Air Force was established in 1947 as the first independent air force in the world. The USAF is one of the most powerful militaries on Earth and its aircraft are used to conduct many operations, including Operation Desert Storm in 1990. During that conflict, the USAF played a key role by providing cover for coalition forces while they fought against Saddam Hussein's regime. In 1995, Andover Air National Guard Base was assigned to the USAAF and became home to two F-16 Fighting Falcons fighter jets. These aircraft were part of what is known as Andover Wing One and currently serve as part of United States Strategic Command (USSTRATCOM) located in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition to these planes, Andover also has an active USAF detachment which provides ground support for members of United States Army Forces Iraq (USAFIFR). The Andover Air Force Base gift history dates back to 1944 when the United States Air Force began purchasing land at Andover for its new fighter squadron, the 91st Fighter Group. The squadrons were located on land that is now known as Peterson AFB. The 91st FG was inactivated in 1946 and the land was transferred to the Army. In 1948, Congress passed a bill providing for the activation of a new air force unit at Andover - the 9th Bombardment Wing (9 BW). On 1 July 1949, the 9 BW activated and moved from Albuquerque, New Mexico to Andover. In 1951, Congress passed an act providing for the establishment of an air force school at Andover - Andrews AFB School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. This school became operational on 8 September 1951 and conducted training operations until it closed in 1957. In 1958, Congressman John Fetterman introduced legislation appropriating $30 million for construction of a new air force base at Andover - installation of which would include a civilian airport adjacent to Andrews AFB School of Aeronautics and Astronautics. The bill was signed into law by President Eisenhower on 25 November 1958 and became effective on 1 January 1959. When Andrews AFB opened its doors in 1959, Andover had become one of America's most important military installations with over 4,000 active duty members assigned there! The base saw heavy military use during both World War II (1942-1945) and Korea (1950-1953). During this time it also served as home to various USAF units responsible for strategic bombardment forces including allied bombers flying over Japan; these missions are considered pre-emptive strikes against Japanese targets! 2 major USAF Flight Schools were also stationed at Andrews AFB during this time: Aerospace Technology School (ATS) operated from 1960-1963 while Weapons School Detachment 2 (WSDET2) operated from 1966-1970; both schools eventually closed but their programs continue today as separate entities known as Randolph Air National Guard Base and Kirtland Air National Guard Base respectively! 309 enlisted men died while serving at Andrews AFB between 1959-1973 inclusive; this number includes all Killed In Action/Enlisted Deaths associated with said installation! Additionally 6 officers died while serving at said installation: Majors General Clifford Epps Jr., Colonel George Seddon III*, Brigadier General James L Ziegler* & Major General Leroy J Dunn*. *These officers are included within Killed In Action/Enlisted Deaths table above

TheAAF was formed on October 1, 1917 as the American Expeditionary Forces in order to provide aerial support for Allied forces during the war. The AEF also consisted of an armory, Boeing Aircraft Company and other related companies. After World War II, the USAF grew rapidly and by 1958 it had over 120 fighter aircraft types in its inventory. In 1961, the USAF became a component of NATO and began operations against Warsaw Pact countries. The USAF played a critical role in the Cold War by providing air superiority over enemy airspace and supporting ground troops with airstrikes. In May 1991, President George H.W. Bush ordered Operation Desert Storm which led to the destruction of Iraqi military forces at Fallujah beachhead in Iraq. TheOperation Desert Storm is considered one of America’s most successful wars ever fought and has been cited as one of America’s most significant accomplishments since World War II. Today, the United States Air Force remains an important player in global affairs through its roles in both NATO missions and homeland security initiatives such as Joint Strike Fighter programs across many branches of government including law enforcement agencies or firefighting services

Andover, Kansas was founded in 1854 by James K. Andover and his wife Mary A. Andover. The town was named after the village of Andover, Massachusetts. Mr. Andover had come to Kansas during the American Civil War to help feed and arm the Union army. In 1865, he donated land for a school district which became known as "Andover Township". The first school building in Andover Township was built in 1868. The township's only other building was a farmhouse that served as a community center until 1925 when it burned down. The first post office in Andover Township was established on July 1, 1875. It operated from a small shop on Main Street until 1911 when it moved to an new location at 6th Street and Neches Avenue. In 1925, the town acquired its own water system with two wells and installed pump stations at First and Third Streets. In 1948, Mr. Andovers son-in-law Dwight Ladd purchased 66 acres of land east of the town line which would later become known as Village Park Preserve (later renamed Aspen Park). This area is now within the boundaries of present-day Wichita County and includes portions of both Butte Creek Wildlife Management Area and Aspen Park Golf Course subdivision
