The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History, or MCGHist for short, is a unique and valuable repository of gift history for the Marines. West Des Moines, Iowa is the capital of Iowa. It is located in southeast Iowa on the Willamette River and is the largest city in Iowa. The population was 157,512 at the 2010 census. The city was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1880 by order of Governor John A. Simpson from land that had been donated by Judge Amos Kendall for $1 per acre (land value then about $100). The original town site included only two blocks of downtown; today's north side includes much more development due to its location adjacent to I-35W and nearby shopping malls and restaurants. In 1915–16 nickelodeon pioneer Wernher von Braun filmed scenes for "Space Race" at this location before his movie wrapped production at Hollywood Studios two miles away across Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles just before midnight on October 25th that year; it was one of earliest examples of video recording in North America On January 16th, 1933 – one day after Franklin D Roosevelt became president – he issued Executive Order 9982 which led to creation of United States Army Air Forces' 2nd Bombardment Wing (later 5th Bombardment Wing) at Wright Field northwest of Dayton Ohio under Major General Curtis LeMay Jr.. On December 12th 1945 while fighting off Japanese forces 24 miles east of Hiroshima - Japan's atomic bombing attack - during Operation Firestorm United StatesAAF B-29 Superfortress Bomber Squadron 51 “Stuka” attacked Hiroshima Airport using incendiary bombs dropping 614 tons of homemade uranium weapon fuel onto airport buildings killing 93% all occupants within 10 minutes
The Marine Corps has been deploying gift history since the turn of the century. Here are a few examples: In 1906, Marines served as pallbearers for President Theodore Roosevelt’s funeral. A year later, they delivered a gift to his wife Alice from a grateful crowd of civilians at an outdoor service in Hyde Park, New York City. The following year, they presented Alice with a silver bowl filled with flowers and inscribed “For your husband/Father” in gold letters. In 1912, Marine Corp Cpl First Class John Pemberton sent his mother-in-law a basket filled with fresh fruit and cookies from Quantico Naval Station in Virginia. She was so impressed that she invited him to stay longer on leave one night while he visited her there. In 1925, Marines present Sgt Eddie Rickenbacker with a new set of drums made by Donnie Fenton of Detroit – the first set ever given to an American serviceman abroad! From 1936 until 1945, Marines donated Christmas presents to their families at Camp Pendleton (now Joint Base San Diego County). Gifts included radios and clothing items as well as homespun clothings and kitchen supplies. Many donors also left behind personal notes describing their favorite moment or activity during their time spent at Camp Pendleton. On December 2nd 1942, Sergeant Alfred Dorman gave birth to baby Erwin Franklin Dorman II outside of Iwo Jima during WWII when Marine forces were fighting off Japanese aggression against Allied forces advancing through Japan. The child was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism that day!
