Waukee is a small town in Iowa, located about 20 miles east of Des Moines. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines-West Des Moines Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Waukee were Methodists from Carolina who came to what is now Waukee in 1851. A post office was established at Waukee in 1857, and the town was named after John W. Ames, one of the original settlers. The Ames family continued to own and operate the post office until it closed in 1907. The first school in Waukee was built on a farmstead near present day Highway 7 and Meridian Drive in 1879. The first teacher was Mrs. Harker. In 1896, there were 10 students and 2 teachers when a new school building was built on Cemetery Road by Hennepin County commissioners for $3,000 dollars donated by JH Wilkinson Sr., father of Mr. John Wilkinson (the founder of Wilkinson Manufacturing Company). Today’s school building, which cost $27,500 to build and has since been renovated numerous times costing an additional $10,000 or so each time reflects how much progress has been made over the years with technology! In 1905 Union Pacific Railroad moved its main line through town from Cedar Rapids to West Des Moines; this created a big change for local business as many businesses lost their customers because they had to move their operations out of town for fear that they would be shut down by UP! Nowadays most businesses are still located within walking distance or car ride of their customers! In 1916-17 Waukee School District formed with 9 schools; today it totals 35 schools including 3 high schools (Waukee Middle/High School; Central High School; Southwestern High School) as well as 4 charter schools: Parkview Elementary School (9th grade), Valley View Elementary(8th grade), New Beginnings Pre-K-(6th grade), and First United Methodist Churchelementary (7th grade). All these educational institutions together provide opportunities for more than 650 students per day ! currently there are plans underway to build another elementary school which will seat up to 1100 students which should bring even more opportunities for education not just inside our walls but also outside where children can learn about cultures other than those found within our borders!

Waukee, IA is a city in Iowa, United States. The population was 15,591 at the 2010 census. Waukee is the smallest city in Iowa and second-smallest city in the Midwest. It is located in Cedar County on the east side of the Mississippi River. The first Europeans to visit Waukee were French traders who followed the course of the river to its mouth on Mayowa Creek. They named their town after Jean François de la Salle, Sieur de la Salle's superior officer during his exploration of what would become Illinois in 1679. In 1836, Waukee was made a town by state legislators and it became an incorporated village in 1902. In 1907, Waukee became one of twenty cities that merged with Dubuque to form Dubuque County. The population of Dubuque County had grown from 4,992 to 24,746 by 1910 when it merged with Cedar County to form Iowa’s third-smallest county seat. In 1916–1917, as part of World War I efforts to recruit soldiers for service in Europe—the country was barely functioning after Austria-Hungary had collapsed—Dubuque Counties raised money and laid out land for military hospitals and camps near where Waukee now stands. The construction began before World War I ended and continued until 1919; total costs were $1 million dollars ($10 million today). After World War II ended there was a decline in manufacturing jobs throughout much of Iowa but this did not stop people from coming back to Waukee because they saw opportunity there. There have been many businesses started here such as BNQ Software (now part of Microsoft), The Mattress Firm (later Sears), Two Guys Pizza (later Papa John's Pizza) and numerous other small businesses over the years which has helped make this community hub for many people living hereabouts day-to-day life activities such as shopping or dining out as well professional activities like engineering work or law enforcement work done hereabouts involving collaboration among these various companies/ professionals etcetera . This has led many people who live close by also taking advantage of things like bike trails or walking paths that connect different parts of town so those living closer can get some exercise while still being able to enjoy all that Vibram offers without having too far away
Waukee was founded in 1854 by George P. Waukee and his wife, Anna H. Waukee. George was a surveyor and Anna was a miller. The first settler in the area was John Fetterman. Waukee became an incorporated town in 1872.
