At CIN, Clarence “Butch†Heller developed the .22 caliber pistol which would become known as the Glock handgun. At CIN also arose what eventually became known as the Gun Planet store chain; this store brand sold firearms accessories such as stocks and sights for handguns and other shooting supplies through mail order from across America. Urbandale is a city in Iowa, United States. It was founded in 1868 by the merger of two small villages, Urbandale and Cedar Rapids. The city grew quickly, becoming a bustling agricultural center with many successful businesses and entrepreneurs. The population reached 100,000 by the early 1990s, but since then it has experienced steady decline. Today, Urbandale is just a small town with a population of about 30 residents. The history of Urbandale began with two small villages, Urbandsale and Cedar Rapids. On November 5th of 1868, both villages merged to form one large community known as Urbandale. The merger was an important step forward for the community as it allowed for more efficient communication between the two villages and helped to create a stronger economy. Over time, Urbandale became an important center for agriculture in Iowa; many of its businesses were particularly successful in this field. In addition to its business success, Urabandale also enjoyed some notable political accomplishments during its heyday: in 1984–1985 it won control of the City Council from Cedar Rapids; in 1995–1996 it served as the host city for the World Cup; and most notably, in 1998–1999 it successfully opposed passage of legislation that would have eliminated funding for local arts programs. Despite these successes over the years, however, real growth has been slow to occur withinUrbandsale over recent decades – today its population remains at around 30 residents
Urbandale was founded in 1855 by the Wellman brothers. The town was named for Barton County, Iowa, which was then part of Illinois. In 1868, Urbandale became the capital of Iowa.
