The Sioux City, Iowa Coast Guard was established in 1917. The unit has been working to protect the coastline of Sioux City since then. The Coast Guard’s mission is to provide a secure and efficient waterfront for the citizens of Sioux City and its surrounds. In addition, the Coast Guard also provides emergency services along the Iowa coast. The history of the Coast Guard in Sioux City began with a need for help during World War I. The United States military needed someone to keep an eye on ships at sea and make sure that they didn’t fall into enemy hands. As it turned out, the Navy was not as interested in patrolling our coasts as they were supposed to be and so they asked the Coast Guard if they could use their resources to help out. The first group of people who worked for the Coast Guard in Sioux City were men from Station 11 on Cedar Island. This location served as a training ground for new members of the unit. From here, they would patrol our coastline looking for dangers such as smugglers trying to bring drugs across our border or pirates raiding vessels offshore. Although Patrol Squadron 1 was formed initially just to provide security along our coastlines, it quickly became evident that we had more than just law enforcement duties at hand; we also had nutritional needs! So, Patrol Squadron 2 was created in 1923 and began providing essential cargo support missions along our coastlines; helping farmers get food off-shore and into local grocery stores! As things changed around us during World War II, so too did our coastal patrols! When war came Americans were mobilized quick and there wasn’t time for any training exercises or recruiting ceremonies; station personnel simply followed orders and patrolled their assigned areas! It wasn’t until 1945 that Coastal Security Group 1 was activated which provided both operational support (such as monitoring radar signals)and intelligence gathering assets (such as listening posts). All this work led up to Operation Neptune Spear which successfully repelled an amphibious invasion by Japanese forces! Throughout its history, Patrol Squadron 4 has always been proudto have served alongside other units within Headquarters Civil Affairs Command –HQ CHA -and have always looked forwardtothe opportunities given by each new crisis situations encountered onour behalf By 2009 HQ CHA had increased responsibilities includingcommanding all US Military Field Forces stationedin India & Pakistan . Sioux City, Iowa (population: 71,381) is the capital and largest city of the Sioux City metropolitan area, which includes all of southeastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois. The Sioux City Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 345,763 in 2015. The city is located on the Missouri River near its confluence with theIowa River. It was founded by General George Armstrong Custer in 1854 as Fort Dodge. The first white settlers arrived in 1853 when Captain James Dixon founded what would become Omaha, Nebraska. In 1857, General Winfield Scott's army invaded Indian Territory and destroyed most of present-day Iowa; however, Dixon's fortuitous location on the confluence of two rivers led to continued Anglo settlement and development in what became Sioux City. On July 20, 1858, Sioux City was founded by Captain John Aiken as part of a general strike against land grants given out by President James K. Polk to various western ranchers under terms that allowed them to sell their holdings at low prices to settlers who could not live on them long because they were required to carry out military service for Polk. The city quickly became an important stopover for wagon trains during the early years of railroad construction in central United States. In 1861 local settler Daniel Wells Fargo donated land east of the river for a new courthouse and jail; this site would become one of downtown Sioux City's primary commercial areas until it was replaced by FirstBank Plaza in 1995. In 1865–1866 Dakota Indians led by Chief Crazy Horse raided whites settlements throughout central United States; during this period Sioux City experienced significant damage from firefights between white civilians and Native Americans as well as looting and vandalism typical among frontier tribes at this time also known as "the Great North Westraid". After successfully repelling these attacks, SiouxCity began developing into an important cultural center for eastern Iowa following decades of relatively neglect among other westward-moving American cultures such as Denver Colorado Springs Arizona Tucson Mexico etcetera due largely to larger communities farther away from major transportation hubs like Chicago San Francisco etcetera). The Sioux City, Iowa area has been inhabited by the Sioux for over 7,000 years. The first European to visit the area was Francisco Vásquez de Coronado in 1542. In 1837, the Treaty of Fort Laramie ended the Dakota War and opened up Minnesota Territory to fur traders. The land that would become Sioux City was first settled by refugees from the Battle of Bad Axe in 1859. The town was founded on March 2, 1861 by a group of Mormons who were escaping polygamy in Utah. When Nebraska became a state in 1865, it included Sioux City as part of its territory. As Nebraska grew more Republican and antimonopoly policies were enacted, businesses began to move out of Omaha and into Sioux City. In 1932, when the Hoovers moved to Iowa from New York City, they chose Sioux City as their new home because it had a large grain elevator and they wanted to be close to their family farms. Over time, many other businesses have moved into Sioux City including restaurants such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Subway; health care providers such as Kaiser Permanente and Aetna; transportation services such as Amtrak; and manufacturing companies such as Boeing Aviation Company and Schlumberger Incorporated (a petroleum company). Today, Sioux City is one of the most active cities in central Iowa with over 100 businesses employing over 350 people grossing an estimated $2 billion annually.
