Pella is a small town in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. The population was 603 at the 2010 census. Pella was founded in 1854 by Reuben and Anna Hyde. It originally consisted of two homes, but it grew to three when the family bought land around it. After years of agricultural production, Pella became a city in 1903. It lost its status as a city after most of its residents left for other towns in Iowa during the Great Depression. The population peaked at 1,451 in 1951 and has since declined by more than 100 people each decade since then. However, Pella remains an important community because of its rich history and cultural attractions.
