Since the 1830s, Ottumwa, Iowa has been producing its own unique type of coffee. The coffee is said to be the best in the world and is often served at local cafes and restaurants. Today, artisan coffee remains a popular commodity in Ottumwa, as it is known for its high quality and unique flavor. The first coffee beans were grown in what is now Ottumwa by two men, John Prentice and Thomas Percival. The beans were hand-picked and roasted by these gentlemen on their farmstead until 1845. At that time, the Ottumwa Coffee Company was founded and began marketing their beans all across the state of Iowa. Over time, many other local businesses joined forces with the Ottumwa Coffee Company to help distribute and sell their product. Thisallowed for more variety in taste, allowing customers to find exactly what they wanted from each cup of coffee. Over time, also different roasting techniques have been experimented with - including espresso shot cups (introduced in 1956), Turkish roast (introduced in 1984), dark roast (introduced in 1998), light roast (introduced in 2006), cold brew (launched in 2009), and single serve pods (available since 2010). Today, there are over 20 cafes located throughout central Iowa that offer artisanal coffee made by members of the community. These cafes typically serve a wide variety of beer/wine combinations as well as pastries such as sandwiches and pizzas. Additionally, several small farms based around town produce various types of coffees - some sold directly while others are distributed through food delivery services or retail stores.

The Ottumwa Coffee Company was founded in 1886 by Otto and Margarete Kapp. The company became a national brand in the 1920s. In 1951, the Ottumwa Coffee Company merged with the Omaha Coffee Company to form the Omaha-Otumwa Coffee Corporation. The corporation continued to produce quality coffee until it closed its doors in 1984.

Ottumwa, Iowa is a small town in the U.S. state of Iowa. The population was 5,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Des Moines–Cedar Rapids–Bloomington metropolitan area. The Ottumwa post office was established in 1854, and remained in operation until it closed on November 15, 2003. The town was named for John Ottumwa, an early settler and one of the first merchants in what would become Ottumwa. The community began to take form in the late 1800s as a result of wagon trade between Iowa City and Omaha through the Great Western Trail. Grain farming became common around this time; however, it wasn't until after World War II that Ottumwans started buying land here to build homes and businesses. Today, many Ottumwans are retired or working outside their home communities; however, some continue to live here permanently as well. The community has several schools including: “Ottumwa Valley Community School” which serves students from pre-Kindergarten through twelfth grade; “John Fenton Senior High School” which offers high school seniors and juniors a full range of education options from grades 9-12; “Ottumwa Township High School” for grades 9-12; and “Fayette County Community College” which offers vocational training programs for local employees that are needed by businesses in the community....

Ottumwa, Iowa is a town in Marshall County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sioux City-West Des Moines-Hilton Head, IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ottumwa was founded in 1854 by German immigrants and became a town in 1875. The post office was established in 1865 and named for Ottumwa Creek. The first settler in Ottumwa was Gottfried Wilhelm Leitner who arrived on July 3, 1854. He built a cabin on the east side of Ottumwa Creek. In 1865, Samuel Hennepin purchased land north of present-day Ottumwaa Avenue from Gottfried Wilhelm Leitner and built his own home there called "Hennepin's Landing". David Nash also settled in this area around this time. In 1875, the first school board was formed in Ottumwa with Wm Sauer as president and Fenton Hubbell as secretary/treasurer/ clerk. That same year saw the opening of the first store building located at present day corner of First Street and Third Avenue NE by John Greenleaf Whipple & Co.. A new courthouse was completed northeast of town near what is now Mount Pleasant Elementary School in 1902; it served as the county seat until 1907 when that function moved to Sioux City. In 1915, George Coyle began construction on what is today known as Coyle's Mill which would eventually produce flour for many local businesses including Sears Roebuck & Co., Jiffy Lube Oil Company (now Synovus) and Dodge Motors Corporation (later Chrysler). The mill continued to operate until 1971 when it burned down due to an arson attack that occurred during harvest season. The post office changed its name to Ottumwa on November 17th, 1975 after being merited by newly created Marshall County! The current Post Office Building opened its doors on October 26th 2009 inside of Merchants Bank Arena!

On Ottumwa, Iowa, the first post office was established on October 5, 1854. The town was named for Ebenezer Ottumwa, a Senator from Iowa.
