North Liberty, Iowa is a small town in Polk County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,841 at the 2010 census. North Liberty was founded in 1854 by citizens of nearby Council Bluffs. It became a city in 1907. North Liberty is located on the Union Pacific Railroad's Cedar Rapids-Council Bluffs Line and is home to the Cedar Rapids Community College and North Liberty High School. The first settlers in what would become North Liberty were farmers who arrived through the Illinois River route from Council Bluffs in 1853. They named their town after their hometown ofLiberty, Missouri. The new town had only two buildings—a store and a school—and no residents until 1854 when five friends met to form a company to buy land for a new township. By then, many other people had also settled around Council Bluffs because of its strategic location for trade with Illinois and Kansas City. When it voted to become a city on February 14, 1907, it had an estimated population of 2,000 people; however that number has since grown to over 9600 as the result of annexation by Cedar Rapids over time!
