The Coast Guard has been in operation in Newton, Iowa since 1903. The first Coast Guard station was built on the present site of the City Hall in 1915. In 1933, a new headquarters was built on the north side of State Street. This building served as Headquarters for both the Newton Police Department and the Coast Guard until it was replaced by Headquarters for the Newton-HullFire District in 1978. From 1935 to 1951, a small service station was located at Third and University Streets near downtown. It served as a place where people could get fuel and supplies for their boats while they waited for help from the Coast Guard. In 1953, an addition to Headquarters was built which served as Commandant’s Office and housed all of the various agencies within Headquarters including Patrol Boat Squadron One (PBS), Helicopter squadron one (HM-1), Marine unit three sixone (MUN3 6O), Harbor patrol unit two five one (HPU2 5O) and boat squadrons two four two (BS2 4O) and four one (BS4 1O). This addition had an attached gymnasium which became known as “The Vault” after it housed all of the equipment used by agents during boating emergencies such as sinkholes or trapped passengers. In 1978, Headquarters moved from its original location on State Street to its current location on High Street which is also home to Patrol Boat Squadron One (PBS), Helicopter squadron one (HM-1), Marine unit three sixone (MUN3 6O), Harbor patrol unit two five one (HPU2 5O) and boat squadrons two four two (BS2 4O) and four one(BS4 1O). Since moving to High Street, Headquarters has continued to serve as a command center for multiple agencies within Newton-HullFire District including Patrol Boat Squadron One(PBS), Helicopter squadron one(HM-1), Marine Unit Three Sixone(MUN3 6O), Harbor Patrol Unit Two Five One(*HPU2 5O)*and Boat Squadrons Two Four Two(*BS2 4Os*)

The Newton Coast Guard Station was founded on December 1, 1879. The station is located in the town of Newton. In 1907, the Coast Guard Station was renamed the Newton detachment of the Iowa State Patrol. The detachment disbanded on September 30, 1957. On July 15, 1978, the Newton detachment became part of the Iowa state police and was renamed as the Newton Police Department.
Newton is a small town in Osborne County, Iowa, United States. The population was 539 at the 2010 census. Newton is located on State Highway 9 northwest of Cedar Rapids and east of Waterloo. Newton was founded in 1853 by survivors of the wreck of the brig "SS Mount Washington" on the Iowa Sand Creek. The village's first post office was established in 1854. Newton's first building, a log structure called the Log House, was built in 1855. In 1860, a schoolhouse and barn were erected and the community name changed to Newton after John Newton, an early settler who donated land for a school and store. In 1870, two churches were built: a Methodist church (later renamed First Presbyterian) and an Episcopal church (later renamed Stonewall). A gristmill was built in 1872 and became operational in 1886; it served as Newton's primary means of income until 1940 whenノートン Civic Improvement Association purchased it from its owner for $10,000 (). The gristmill continued to be used until 1984 when it was replaced by a new mill which has since been demolished. A post office called Newcomb was established at Newton in 1865; it remained active until 1907. In 1897–1898, an agricultural fair was held at the Soldiers' Home northeast of Newton which is now known as Elmira Park; local farmers brought their crops to this fair which featured exhibits from aroundIowa City. In 1915-16, Newton received word that World War I had begun; residents quickly organized themselves into military Units to help fight against Austria-Hungary (). After WWI ended, many residents returned home but some people stayed behind to operate small businesses such as stores or restaurants (). One business that operated successfully during prohibition era is still open today - The Grits Mgr'. In 1954-55 when Des Moines metropolitan area experienced rapid growth due to Interstate 95 construction projects along its periphery – including development along Northern Avenue including what would become North Aurora – much attention turned towards downtown Des Moines; however much smaller towns like Newton slowly lost population due to commuting costs associated with larger cities. In response to this change in policy by Des Moines Mayor Tom Foley – resulting in declining tax base for smaller towns within city limits – National Broadcasting Company (NBC) began developing new programming across its various networks aimed squarely at suburban communities outside ofDes Moines’ traditional media market place (); accordingly beginning with "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson", NBC unsuccessfully tried multiple times over several years TO moveNEWTON LIVE FROM DES MOINES TO NORTH AURORA ON OCTOBER 2ND 1958 ON THE AIR OF WGN AM RADIO WITH JOHN NEWTON AS HOST . UNFORTUNATELY THE NETWORK DECIDED THAT ITS Larger CITIES OUTSIDE OF DOWNTOWN DARE EXPOSE THEIR PROGRAMMING TO SUBURBSHARPEST PICTURES AND SO RETURNED BACK TO DES MOINES IN NON-STOPPING DEVELOPMENTS INCLUDING BEVERLY HILLS NRG TELEVISION STUDIOS AFTER AN EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATION BY THE COPYRIGHT OWNER ..… Continued efforts have been made recently by Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) through theirowned cable channel TBS2 (which includes original programming not available on other networks), as well as Time Warner Cable SportsChannel 8 HD carrying live sporting events from major leagues baseball (), basketball (), soccer (), track & field () etc., making North Aurora one of hometown’s most popular destinations for experiencing professional sports throughout Polk County annually! When I moved here 10 years ago my husband said if you want something done here just ask Bob Dole about it because he did all the work…. As time has passed things have changed but our town will always hold a special place among those who lived here long ago….. We are proud citizens of Osborne County and we love our community!

Today, the Coast Guard provides essential services to prevent maritime disasters and uphold our nation's security. In 1821, the first coast guard station was established at Sandy Hook Point in New Jersey. The Coast Guard was created as part of President James K. Polk's "New Deal" agenda to protect America's coasts from potential threats such as piracy and Wilmington Harbor Disaster in 1933. In 1940, the United States acquired an additional 6 coastal stations. These stations were used for various purposes such as weather observation, search and rescue operations,and military transport duties. In 1971, Congress designated Christmas Island (a small island located in Australian waters east of Perth) as a marine protected area pursuant to section 106 of Public Law 91-576 (the Magnuson-Stevens Act). This designation helped keep commercial fishing off Christmas Island while also protecting its unique environment including coral reefs and penguin rookeries. The Marine Mammal Protection Act Amendments of 1986 removed all commercial fishing from Christmas Island effective January 1st 1987; this action preserved both the island's environment and its important breeding colonies for future generations of sea lions and seals. Since inception, Coast Guard gift history has included many memorable moments for Americans and their loved ones along with some iconic gifts that have stood out over time. In 1907, Newton became a city and has remained that way ever since. Newton's history begins with the founding of the town by farmers who were looking for a place to raise their families. The community was named after Isaac Newton, an English scientist who had made important discoveries about optics and gravity. The first residents of Newton were farmers and their families, who continued to live there until the early 20th century. One of the most significant events in Newton's history occurred in 1907 when it became a city. That year, Mayor Davenport announced that Newton would become part of the larger city of Des Moines. At that time, Des Moines was one of the largest cities in America and its growth had taken up much of the acreage around Newton. With its growing population and burgeoning economy, Newton needed more space than could be found within its original boundaries. So, on July 1st 1907, City Hall officially became known as "The Municipal Building." In recent years, many things have changed about Newton – including its size (it now has just over 12 hundred residents), its economy (the city is home to numerous businesses), and even its name (now called "Newton-Morningside"). However, one thing which hasn't changed at all is the passion and commitment which each resident has towards their local community - something you can see throughout every day from all those friendly faces waiting at bus stops or walking down Main Street!
