On May 10th 1865, CSS "Virginia" destroyed USS Monitor while it was engaged in naval warfare off Hampton Roads Va., causing great damage to that warship and mortally wounding James Hogg who commanded her at that time In 1893 Rear Admiral George Dewey became Commanding Officer of USS "Titanic". He led his ship through many historic moments during her maiden voyage which included crossing through ice pack territory unchallenged; grounding onshore without warning near latitude 56 degrees North; rescuing survivors from an iceberg which sunk off Newfoundland; sinking two Danish vessels with steamboats before reaching New York City harbor.; leading a raid on Mobile Bay resulting in twenty five killed plus thirty seven wounded aboard HMCS Cornwallis;;flagship of Battle Squadron One Hundred Eighty Nine during “Operation Haymarket” which ultimately resulted in victory over Confederate forces at Drewry’s Bluff USS Constitution Museum – opened September 1st 1962 located at Long Island Naval Station The USS Constitution Museum is open every day 9am-5pm except statutory holidays
