The United States Air Force has a rich history of service to the nation. The USAF was founded in 1947 as the National Military Establishment, and since then, it has been one of America's most important and respected institutions. The USAF is responsible for providing air support to American troops in all corners of the world. It also provides air refueling and weapons delivery systems to our allies and partners. In addition, the USAF is responsible for numerous other significant functions within our national security apparatus. One such function is gifting items and services to its members. Gifts have long been an important part of the USAF culture, and it is no surprise that this tradition continues today. For many years, members of the USAF have received gifts from their friends and family back home. This year alone, Fort Madison residents have received several amazing gifts from their fellow military personnel in Europe! Some of these gifts were very practical, such as new vehicles or equipment. Other gifts were more sentimental, such as clothing or toys for children. Regardless of the gift's purpose or recipient, each donation brings joy into someone else's life - something that we should remember when thinking about how we can help make sure that future generations enjoy everything that Fort Madison has to offer!

The Fort Madison community has been a part of the Iowa Air National Guard for over seventy years. In that time, we've given many gifts to the United States Air Force. Our volunteers have participated in many Annual Air National Guard galas and Fourth of July events throughout the state. In 2006, we donated a $5 million airman's home in Fort Madison to be used as an air force command post and visitor center. The home is now known as "The Colonel's House."
Fort Madison was founded in 1836 as a military post on the Iowa River. The fort served as a garrison for settlers and as a base of operations for the Indian Removal Act of 1830. In 1851, Fort Madison was renamed Fort Dodge after Major General Winfield Scott’s victory over General Andrew Jackson at the Battle of Bull Run. In 1886, the fort was again renamed Fort Dodge after Ulysses S. Grant became president and began Reconstruction in America. After years of being used as an animal feed depot, Fort Dodge was decommissioned in 1912 and demolished. Today, part of the fort remains as a museum open to the public. Fort Madison is located on Iowa State Highway 5 south-southwest of Des Moines. The town occupies an area bounded by US 50 to the east, Interstate 35W to the north, and US 6 to the west. The village lies within ZIP Code 50010 and has a population of about 930 residents. The first permanent settler in present-day Fort Madison arrived in 1836 when John Cramer built a cabin on what is now Illinois Avenue near what is today University Avenue. Other early settlers included Absalom Armstrong, James Aiken, John Atwater, Samuel Bueler, Isaac Brockmeyer, Solomon Chamberlain and Robert Carruth Sr.. By 1846 there were 10 buildings atFortMadison with 50 residents; however only 11 residents lived inside the walls when it surrendered its gates to Missouri forces that year following their invasion of Iowa Territory. The Treaty of Cedar Rapids (1853) ended Native American resistance to Anglo settlement in central Iowa Territory; however sections 24 through 30 still remained under Indian control until they were finally ceded by treaty upon outbreak of World War II less than three weeks later on September 16th due to pressure from President Abraham Lincoln seeking revenge for previous defeats suffered at Vicksburg (1863) and Perryville (1865). In 1862 Union troops burned down several homes within two blocks radius surrounding FtDodge during their Raid on Cedar Rapids which had occurred days earlier; this caused many local farmers to migrate westward into Nebraska Territory where they established new settlements around Omaha Lakes National Forest which solidified Anglo control over much central Kansas & Nebraska territory thereafter culminating with final surrendering by Sioux Indians just before Thanksgiving 1865 resulting in creation of North Dakota Territory along existing Sioux Reservation boundaries including FtDodge acquired from Sac & Fox Tribe following war’s conclusion along lines proposed by Chief Black Hills faction led by Sitting Bull - thus ending 200 years uninterrupted ownership & use of property within present day Fort Madison limits
The United States Air Force (USAF) gift history goes back to the early days of the USAF when it was founded as a military aviation school. The USAF has always been one of the most generous organizations in the world, gifting many items and services to its members. Today, the USAF is one of America's lead air forces and provides critical aerial support for U.S. national interests around the world. One of the USAF's earliest gifts was an airplane - an F-86 Sabre jet fighter aircraft donated by Lockheed Aircraft Company in 1958. That same year, also saw the donation of a helicopter - an AH-1 Cobra helicopter from Boeing Helicopters Corporation. In 1961, another airplane - this time a Boeing 727 airliner - was gifted to the USAF by Boeing Aircraft Company in memory of its late CEO and founder Paul Neumann. The following year saw also another helicopter donation, this time a Bell 206 tiltrotor aircraft that was gifted to USAF by Bell Helicopter Industries Incorporated. In 1966, an EC-121E Trident reconnaissance aircraft was gifted to USAF by Northrop Grumman Corporation in memory of General Curtis LeMay who had played such a significant role in leading American involvement in World War II as Chiefof Staff of strategic air forces at Allied Forces Europe. That same year also saw the donation of two new airplanes: an McDonnell Douglas MD-9B Triplane donated by McDonnell Aircraft Co.,Inc., and an E-3 Sentry AWACS airborne warning and control system from Northrop Grumman Corporation which would serve as America's first global networked AWACS squadron until it was replaced with Eurocontrol after 9/11/. In 1969, American Airlines became one of just four airlines to become memberships with USAFA which allowed for through affiliation with any member airline providing "safe and efficient air service" within their airspace). In addition, ground facilities were added at Wright Patterson AFB where USAAF headquarters now stand while requirements for research testing were created including aspects related to nuclear weapons handling and operations combined with other scientific research programs focused on aspects such as atmospheric sciences or missile technology development which later formed part of today’s joint NATO Surveillance Weapon Program (JSWTP). The following year saw yet another airplane donation: two Cessna 172 Twin Otter helicopters were gifted to USAAF by Cessna Aircraft & Parts Incorporated in memory both Raytheon Missile Systems Division Vice President Neil Armstrong Jr.'s first visit into space aboard Apollo 11 during his historic 1969 walk on missions; as well as NASA Administrator James Webb Ferrell's maiden trip into space aboard Soyuz TMA 07M spacecraft during Expedition 5 on July 21st 1971 ). The 1970s continued with donations from many notable companies including Anaconda Copper Mines Incorporated giving six Convair 880 turboprops donated plus parts for nineteen Alenia Marchetti P38 Lightning fighters; Hughes Electric Aviation donating three Beechcraft CC-18A Kingcranes); Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company contributing twenty Beechcraft 1900C Beaver utility planes); Western Electric Company donating five De Havilland Canada DHC-8 Caribou light transport jets); finally Hewlett Packard Development Company donating two AgustaWestland A109 Merlin fighters which would be used extensively throughout Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm/Operation Iraqi Freedom ). In total, between 1968 through 1971 there have been contributions from various companies totaling over $100 million dollars! This demonstrates how much importance both Lockheed Martin Corp., Boeing Airways Limited Partnership (BAVP), Northrop Grumman Corporation (NOC), General Dynamics Missile Systems Division (GDMSD), Westinghouse Electric Corp., Rockwell Collins missiles company etc have had within American Aerospace Services Incorporated since its creation! It is truly testament to these companies' dedication towards making sure that all aspects associated with USAF operations are conducted efficiently as well as ensuring that our nation remains safe across all boundaries!
The United States Air Force has a rich history of giving gifts. Gifts have been given to members of the military, government officials, and others in many different ways.
Fort Madison was founded in 1827 by Captain James K. Polk and his father, Captain John H. Polk. The fort was built on the present-day site of the Iowa State Capitol. The first fort was a log stockade with six cannons and two houses for officers and enlisted men. In 1829, the fort became a trading post with its own store, blacksmith shop, and barracks for up to 100 soldiers. In September 1838, Fort Madison was attacked by United States forces under General Winfield Scott while stationed there as part of Ulysses S. Grant’s Overland Campaign into Missouri and Illinois. The attack resulted in the death of five soldiers and the capture of twelve others including two officers. In 1840, Fort Madison became a garrison town after being selected as one of four military sites along the upper Mississippi River that would become Union army posts during the American Civil War. The first battle at Fort Madison took place on November 16, 1846 when Confederate forces assault Union troops under Lieutenant Colonel Elijah White from Missouri led by Brigadier General Thomas Hindman south of the river at Black Hawk Creek Bridge just west of present-day Sioux City. After several hours of fighting, White's force drove off the attacking Confederates with few losses on their side but heavy damage to their equipment including three cannons which were captured by the Unionists intact. In 1862, Fort Madison was sacked by Confederate forces under General Robert E Lee during an attempt to secureaging supplies near Cut Bank Lake in what is now Marshall County."Iowa Gazette", Volume XVIII (1862), pps 1-2 The fort walls were never rebuilt following this attack and it is not known how many guns or munitions were destroyed in this raid. In 1865, due to an increase in Indian raids into central Iowa Territory along its border with Nebraska, President Abraham Lincoln ordered General George Buell to send units northward from Springfield Armory to protect Iowa’s borders against any possible attacks by Native Americans. On October 15th 1865 Buell arrived at Council Bluffs for debarkation his troops only to find that all boats had been taken away before he could disembark them< ref target="_blank">PBS documentary "A Gathering Storm" Episode 351
