One of the earliest shooters in Coralville was Elias Howe, who built a rifle range and manufacturing shop in 1824. The town's first handgunsmith, John Hearn, opened his business in 1830. In 1836, Abram Cushing came to Coralville from Council Bluffs, Iowa and started a hardware store. He soon became the town's first mayor and helped make Coralville one of the most popularGunsmoke towns in America. After Abram Cushing died in 1857, his son-in-law Jesse Winchester took over his father's business and continued to operate it until 1916. During Jesse Winchester's ownership, the shop became known for its high quality firearms products and he is credited with helping turn Coralville into one of the leading Gunsmoke communities in America.

Coralville is a town in Iowa, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Coralville-Davenport, IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Coralville was Isaac Hubbard in 1847. Hubbard and his family were prospectors who discovered several valuable tracts of land east of Cedar Rapids. They named their new home "Hubbardstown" after their friend and neighbor, Isaac Hubbard (1794-1864). In 1849, they founded the town of Coralville on a tract they had bought from the Menomonee River Sioux tribe. The name "Coralville" originated with John Capps, an early settler who purchased land near where the town now stands. In 1857, a local surveyor recommended that Coralville be built on four miles (6 km) of high ground between Cedar Rapids and Davenport for railroad construction purposes. By 1860, over 100 businesses had been established in town and it boasted a population of 514 people. Growth continued through the late 1800s and into the 1900s; by 1910 Coralville's population stood at 5,521 people. During World War I (1914-1918), Coralville served as headquarters for Union General Lew Wallace during his ill-fated march across Iowa to Corning Green field to demand voting rights for all American citizens—a campaign that ultimately failed. After war service in Europe began (1918-1920), many residents left for good or moved back to Iowa when Prohibition ended in 1920; only 7% of community members still lived within its borders twenty years later! During the 1930s and 1940s, coralvilles experienced some significant growth due to farming practices becoming more prevalent among farmers throughout Midwest America during this time period; however much like most other small towns during this time period economic decline set in as manufacturing jobs migrated southward during World War II (1939-1945). Today much like then there are few if any visibly active businesses remaining within what once was one of rural Iowa's most vibrant communities post prohibition/war eras
