Coralville is a small town in Polk County, Iowa, United States. It was founded in 1868 by Danish immigrants, and is the seat of Polk County. The town has a population of 912 as of the 2013 census. Coralville is known for its culture and seafood industries. It is also home to the Coralville Marina, which offers boat rentals, fishing charters, and jet skiing. The first settlers to Coralville were Danish immigrants who arrived in 1868. They began farming land that now includes parts of Coralville and surrounding villages. Coralville, Iowa was the first community in Cedar County to establish a grid of streets. On December 24, 1868, Coralville's board of trustees took steps to create a town square by ordering the construction of a crossroads and paving the land around it. The cornerstone for this first courthouse was laid on July 4, 1869. In 1870, Coralville erected its first schoolhouse which served as their central library until it burned down in 1943. The town square became home to several other businesses and services before going out of business in the early 1970s. Today only an abandoned lot remains at the center of town square where residents used to gather for events or watch movies.

From its inception until it closed in 1907, Coralville had three officers: one clerk and two mail carriers. In 1908, Coralville opened its own school system which became an important factor in its economy and social status. In 1967, Coralville became a city when it annexed adjacent townships of West Des Moines and East Grand Forks. Today, Coralville has a population of about 25,000 people and is considered to be an economic center for northern Iowa due to its location on I-80 and its access to major highways including Interstate 235 and Highway 506.
