Coralville is a town in Muscatine County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1855. Coralville is named after the coral reefs near Palm Beach, Florida. The first permanent settlers in what would become Coralville were five men from Maryland who arrived on an American schooner called "Coral" in 1855. They were seeking passage to California and were not successful so they decided to look for a new adventure and settled down on a small island in Muscatine River that later became Coralville. They named their settlement after the reefs near Palm Beach, Fla., where they had been shipwrecked earlier that year. The men built themselves a cabin and started fishing for fish and other sea creatures which they sold to local merchants for goods such as flour, butter and cloth. In 1860, two brothers by the name of John and George Fenton bought land adjacent to the Menards' farmstead and began building homes there. By 1870, there were 10 houses with a population of 150 people. In 1875, the Fenton brothers-in-law purchased more land adjoining the Menards' farmstead which led to another growth spurt for Coralville as well as neighboring towns such as Muscatine (founded in 1865), Indianola (1870), Waterloo (1875), Newton (1879), Cedar Rapids (1881) and Bellevue (1883). All these towns grew rapidly due toFactory production during those days: cotton ginning began at Waterville mills in 1873; agriculture boomed with development of railroads throughout Midwestern America; businesses opened up providing necessary services like groceries store, millinery store etc.; residents attracted by opportunities available close by
