Clive, Iowa is home to the Clive Police Department. The department was established on July 1, 1892 and has grown over the years. Today, the Clive Police Department serves a population of around 35,000 residents. The Clive Police Department's history can be traced back to 1892 when it was established as a volunteer force by local citizens. At its inception, the Clive Police Department consisted of two officers and four men who patrolled the streets of Clive. In 1916, the Clive City Council passed an ordinance establishing a police department with full authority over all aspects of law enforcement in town. The first Chief Deputy Chief was appointed in 1922 and until 1931 all officers were male only. In 1934, the city council passed an ordinance providing for female officers with full powers andresponsibilities within the department. In 1938 an addition station was set up at Springdale Avenue and Coral Street which served as headquarters forthe department until 1959 when another station was constructed on State Street between Morenci Roadand Grandview Drive. The current incarnation of the Clive Police Department began operations on July 1st, 1992 when Sgt Bob Kapp becameChief Deputy Chief and began working under Mayor Dick Postell. Sgt Kapp led this new force through some tough times during their early years includinga devastating riot that took place in 1995 that left three people dead and dozens injured; however they bounced back quickly and continue to provide quality service to their community today! Over time there have been several changes/ additions to the squad car fleet such as a new cruiser which replaced an old car in 2014; however one of our most beloved vehicles from earlier years still remains - The Oldsmobile Cutlass! This classic vehicle has been used by both Squad Chiefs & Patrolmen alike throughout its many years serving us faithfully!

Clive has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cwa) with hot summer days and cold winter nights, typical of central Iowa. The original settlers in Clive were farmers who arrived around 1855. They were followed by other farmers and their families over the next few decades. The first school was established in Clive in 1873. That same year, a gristmill was built on South Main Street. In 1916, Clive had its first post office which served residents until it closed in 1984. In addition to its agricultural industry, Clive also became known for being one of the most important manufacturing towns in central Iowa during the 20th century. This was due to its significant involvement with boatbuilding and aviation manufacturing during that time frame. Many of these industries have since disappeared or been shifted away from Clive because of competition from more developed towns elsewhere in central Iowa. However, some remaining businesses that are still active include an auto dealership and a plastics company.
