The Marine Corps has a long and proud history in Clive, Iowa. The Marines have been stationed here since World War II and have helped to contribute to the community through their military service and outreach programs. In honor of the Marines’ many years in Clive, we are compiling a history of their Deployed Gift History. We hope this will help to show how the Marines have impacted our community and make everyone feel appreciated. The Marine Corps arrived in Clive in World War II as part of the US Navy. They were initially stationed at Naval Air Station Atchison, Kansas until they moved to Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1944. From there they took on duties including combat operations during the Viet Minh War and Operation Neptune’s Spear which ended with the Japanese surrender. In 1948, they return to Clive as an Expeditionary Unit (E-U) under Commander, 3rd Marine Division based at Camp Pendleton California. Clive is known for its wines which are often served with marines deployed gifts such as wine bottles or jugs. The town was also home to one of America's first wind turbines which was built by local residents in 2001 as part ofOperation Windy City. Clive is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Iowa, United States. It is located on the north bank of the Des Moines River. The post office was established in 1872, and has been in operation since then. Clive is named after Captain Clive of HMS " Sandwich ".

USS Decatur (DE-1) - On December 18, 1941, USS Decatur was the first ship of the United States Navy to be deployed in World War II. The destroyer escort served as flagship for Destroyer Squadron Twenty-One and escorted convoys from Norfolk, Virginia to Des Moines, Iowa. She returned to her homeport on February 5, 1942. USS Indianapolis (CA-74) - The USS Indianapolis was launched on November 17, 1944 from Naval Station Patuxent River Maryland. She completed shakedown cruise off Narragansett Bay on November 25 before she sailed for Pearl Harbor on December 2nd. The carrier reached Hawaii on January 12th 1945 and became Flagship of Destroyer Squadron Fifteen serving during the Battle of Okinawa. After 32 days at sea she arrived at Saipan on February 24th and departed there two days later ferrying troops back to Japan where they were landed by helicopter at Kobe Airport

Clive is a small town in central Iowa, located on the banks of the Des Moines River. The Clive community was founded in 1869 by brothers Amos and Elijah Judd. The Judd brothers were among the earliest settlers in this area, and they built their cabin near present-day Clive. The Judds were responsible for many of the early commercial development in Clive, including a woolen mill and a store. In 1887, after purchasing land around Clive from his father-in-law, Amos Judd erected what is now known as the Judd House as a hotel. In 1914, when Iowa became an all-Republican state, Clive School District No. 5 merged with other districts in the city of Cedar Rapids to form Cedar Rapids Public Schools (CRPS). Today, Clive is home to only one business: Clifftop Golf Course & Resort which opened in 1984. Clive is also home to several important historical sites located within its boundaries: the original Judd Cabin (now known as the Amos Judd House), Monument Street bridge over which traffic passes on its way into and out of town, and Clarendon Cemetery where some of Iowa's most famous citizens are buried such as Edwin Ladd (founder of Ladd Paper Company) and George Patton.

Clive is an agricultural and rural town located on the banks of the Des Moines River in eastern Iowa, about 30 miles (48 km) south of downtown Des Moines and 25 miles (40 km) north of its sister city, West Des Moines.
