The Clive Coffee Company has been in operation since 1896 and was once part of the same family that operated the nearby grain elevator. Today, the Clive Coffee Company operates a total of six stores in Iowa and three stores in Illinois. The Clive Coffee Company began as a small business selling coffee beans from a local grocery store. In 1896, the company opened its first store at 309 S First St., which remains the company’s main location today. By 1912, they had opened two more stores and by 1916 they were operating twelve stores across seven states. In 1925, they became an affiliate of Pabst Brewing Co., making them one of the first brewing companies to affiliate with Pabst Brewing Co.
