The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Clinton community on Presidents Day in 1992. The gift was a Boeing 727-200C Airlift aircraft, which was donated by the airline company and became operational in 1992. The plane had been retired from service and was being used as a hangar at Wright-Patterson AFB. On President's Day, the plane was brought down to Clinton and then put into service as part of the US Air Force'sOperation Christmas Child. As part of Operation Christmas Child, every USAFAAF unit flew an airplaneload of presents to needy families in selected countries. The Airlift Aircraft operated under Project Santa, delivering items such as clothes, food, toys and candy to children who were unable or unwilling to receive gifts from family members or friends. In 1992, the Airlift Aircraft delivered more than 1,500 items to local homes across America. The history of this unique aircraft is reflective of the USAFAAF mission - providing humanitarian assistance during times of need. The donation of this aircraft reflects American exceptionalism and helps show how our country can help others when they are in need.
