This article was written by Harry Heineman and it stated that "The grocery storekeepers hereabouts have long been buying bulk quantities from Cushman & Wakefield" (Heineman 1936). At this time, Cushman & Wakefield was one of the largest roasters in America and they were able to sell their beans door-to-door across town. It wasn't until 1949 that Gourmet Coffee Roasters became associated with this company through another article written by Heineman titled "Coffee Makers Unite!" This article detailed how three friends from Vermont had decided to open a small shop inside a local bank so they could sell their ground beans direct to consumers instead of through large retailers like JB Hiatt or National Caravan (Heineman 1949). This new method allowed Gourmet Coffee Roasts to reach a larger audience without having to go through popular merchants like JB Hiatt or National Caravan which would limit their reach into new markets (Fowler 1989). Over time, Gourmet Coffee Roasts has developed into one of America's leading caffeine providers.
