Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town in the Driftless Area of northeast Iowa that has been roasted coffee for over seventy years. The beans were grown in two or three small farms near Bettendorf until about 1920 when the first processing plant was built. A few years later, the beans were brought to Bettendorf and roasted by Mr. Crocker. The name “Crocker” is still used today to identify either the roaster or one of their associated manufacturing facilities. In 1951, Mr. Prentice began roasting coffee in Bettendorf on his own farm and soon other farmers began growing coffee here as well. From then on, Bettendorf became known as “the Coffee Capital of the World” because of its high quality beans and wide variety of roasts available. In recent years, there have been several new roasters established in Bettendorf but the original Crocker family retains a large share of ownership and control over the business.

Bettendorf, Iowa is a small town in central Iowa, United States. It is the county seat of Dodge County and has a population of 9,711 as of the 2000 census. Bettendorf was founded in 1854 by German immigrants. The first settlers were Lutheran pastors who named their community after Friedrich Gottlieb Bettendorf, an explorer and cartographer who died in 1824. The name means "place where the beaver dam stands." The first post office in Bettendorf was established on October 10, 1855, and it continued to operate until May 3, 1865. The first settler in Bettendorf was Johann Heinrich Boesch. His family moved here from Germany around 1830. In 1860, John Sibley built a log cabin on what is now Wirth Road near present day Main Street. A school was organized in 1862 and classes began taught by local farmers using makeshift classrooms made from boards nailed together with clothespins. By 1870, there were six schools operating within the town limits- three private academies (one for girls only), one public academy (grades 1-8), one Female Seminary (grades 9-12) and one Baptist church which served all denominations within the town limits). In 1872 a group of Germans led by Ernst Haase began buying land east of Bettendorf for farming purposes and called their new community Ottowa or "New Ottowa." Settlers arrived from throughout Iowa into this new community including many families who had lost everything during the Civil War including their homes, farms or businesses. After purchasing some additional acreage they renamed their community Bettendorf after Friedrich Gottlieb Bettendorfer von der Oster Ranch which they purchased from Mr. Oster December 15th 1872 at $152 per acre ($4 per lot). It wasn't until 1886 when another Berliner family decided to move to Ottowa so they could have more space than they could find at home back home in Berlin due to lack of available land east of Ottowa village center.. This second group included siblings Wilhelm Haas (1863-1936) & Berta Haas(1868-) both dentists who started practice here together under the name Haas Dental Co.; Emilie Kapp; August Kapp; Marie Kuhle; Hermann Schmidt; Carl Wiegandt & his wife Anna (Hermann's sister); Harry Weigerlein & his wife Christine etcetera that finally got everyone living on one block and formed what we know today as “the Haases” clan/family dynasty*. Their descendants still live here today alongside other descendants of original immigrants such as Wilhelm Haas' great grandson Drusilla Haase *who currently practices medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital*

Bettendorf is a city in Iowa, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Bettendorf was founded in 1854 by John C. Bettendorf and his family as a fur trader's outpost on the banks of the Des Moines River. At first it was called "Bettendorff." The name change occurred because of confusion with nearby Fort Snelling, Minnesota. In 1856, John C. Bettendorf donated land to the city for municipal purposes and named it after him. Bettendorf grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location on the Mississippi River floodplain and its access to water supplies from both rivers. In 1872, a canal was built through town to provide additional water supplies and enlarged commerce caused growth rates to continue until World War I when shortages led to an economizing by developers and declines in population growth. In 1923, Bettendorf became one of four cities within state boundaries which joined together to form the State of Iowa under then-Governor James Meeks; this action solidified Bettendorf's position as an agricultural center with considerable farming activity continuing until well into the 21st century despite suburban sprawl that has characterized much of central Iowa since then (the last major influx of people began around 1990). The current downtown area includes many buildings from earlier eras including the original courthouse where decisions made about townspeople' dress were taken before court sessions ever took place in present dayDes Moines (then known as Indianola). On May 5, 1907, Mayor Harry Wessels dedicated what is now Main Street between First Avenue East and Second Avenue West as "Harry Wessels Boulevard" in honor of Mayor Harry Wessels' father who had served two terms on City Council prior to his death in 1906 (he would later be posthumously awarded a honorary degree from UI). It should be noted that while main streets are typically named after elected officials or people who have contributed significantly to their communities- such as Harry Wessels- some streets are also named for honored veterans or donors such as Third Avenue South which honors WWI veteran General William Tecumseh Sherman
