The Warsaw Air Force Deployed Gift History Unit (WAFDG) is a unique organization that has been providing smiles to military families in the Warsaw area since 1997. Our mission is to provide unique and memorable gifts for service members and their families, both during and after Operation Iraqi Freedom. Our history begins with the deployment of the 1st Fighter Wing’s Gold Squadron in 1997. The squadron donated two F-16 Fighting Falcons to the Polish Air Force as part of their deployment gift program. Since then, we have donated over 100 gifts to military families in the Warsaw area. Most recently, we hosted our 10th anniversary celebration event on October 14th, 2017. We had an amazing turnout of family members, friends, and colleagues from all different branches of the military. This event was a great opportunity to celebrate our success while honoring those who have served our country before us.

Warsaw, Indiana was founded in 1836 by a group of Polish immigrants. Warsaw is the only town in the state of Indiana and it is located on the Boozeville River. The name Warsaw comes from the Polish word Warszawa, meaning 'town'. The first settlers in Warsaw were parents and children who had come to America aboard the ship "Skarbka". In 1840, they organized a town meeting to create a government for their new community. It was not until 1845 that they elected their first mayor. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s as more and more people moved here from all over Poland. By 1860, Warsaw had a population of 1,500 residents. In 1865, the city council decided to build a school. But due to financial limitations, construction only began on one building - the old courthouse which still stands today. During World War II, Warsaw was hit very hard by bombings from Nazi Germany. However, despite many damage done to buildings and infrastructure, no one was killed or injured within the city limits during World War II. Instead, many Poles who had fled concentration camps came back home to rebuild what was left of their lives after years of being displaced and persecuted by Nazis. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture with a small number of businesses focusing on tourism and transportation services
Warsaw, Indiana was first settled in 1820 by the Poznan family. The town was named for Warsaw, Poland, where the Poznan family had originated. The town was incorporated in 1835. In 1850, Warsaw had a population of 135 people and a post office. The town became an agricultural center with a large cotton plantation. After the American Civil War, the town declined and only had a few residents in 1870. In 1925, Warsaw merged with nearby Terre Haute to form the current city of Indianapolis.
