The first coffee bean crop was grown on the site of present-day Wabash in 1868. Coffee was first roasted here in 1892 by Southerner H.J. Roberts. By 1903, Wabash had become an important center for coffee production, with roasters such as Peet's, Stevens Bros., and Dutch Bros.'s orchestrating major events at the community fairgrounds to promote their beans and products. In 1927, two brothers - Harry and John McCloskey - founded McNaught & McCloskey Coffee Company in nearby Evansville to focus on quality assurance and marketing of their own brand of high-quality Turkish-processed espresso beans (henceforth known as "McCloskey"). By 1954, McNaught & McCloskey had reached national prominence thanks to its explorer program that sponsored trips around the world by leading businessmen and journalists; these trips resulted in more than 25 different publications publishing photographs of Starbucks locations around the world). In 1971, Harry McCloskey passed away but his sons continued running the company until it merged with Peet's Corporation in 2003. today's Starbucks traces its heritage back to McNaught & McClosKEY Coffee Company

Coffee became popularized by Spanish explorers who sailed along South America's coast during the 16th century, including Pedro de Valdivia and Francisco Pizarro. When Columbus discovered America, he brought back plants and seeds which he planted at his settlement of Seville onada (Island of San Miguel). These days, most people think that America's first espresso machine may have been invented by Angelo Boggi atelier Caffè e Lattes in Florence during 1720-1725; however, this is still disputed. After more than two centuries of gradual growth throughout Europe, Africa, Asia Minor, Arabia Petraea and Brazil – culminating with World War II – espresso finally reached its peak popularity as a beverage following World War II when drinks like Coca Cola were developed to compete against espresso as a world market favorite. However, over time espresso has gradually regained some of its lost ground which it currently enjoys thanks to its unique flavor profile which draws drinkers from all corners of the globe to enjoy this unique drink enjoyed by many cultures over many years
