Coffee has been a part of the Wabash community for many years. In 1887, when George Wabash founded the town of Wabash, he started manufacturing coffee beans. The first shop in town was opened by George and his brother-in-law John Wentz. Coffee was sold from panes on the front porch of the Wentz home. In 1907, Harry Weisbrot opened a store in town and began selling coffee direct to consumers. By 1922, there were seventeen coffee shops in Wabash; six were owned by local merchants and eleven by individuals or businesses operating out of their homes. During World War II, Wilson Coffee Corporation produced over two million cups of Java Army Coffee for troops overseas. This popular beverage was used to warm up soldiers before battle and after operations. After the war, Wilson Coffee Corporation ceased production and all traces of Java Army Coffee have disappeared from history until today! Today, many people in Wabash still enjoy cup of Joe every morning!

Wabash, Indiana is a small town located in the heart of the United States. The population was 5,847 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Wabash is home to Purdue University and to several large manufacturing companies. The city's economy depends on farming and tourism, as well as service businesses such as restaurants and hospitals. The first people to live in what is now Wabash County were Native Americans who hunted game near present-day Lafayette and Evansville. In 1814, a group of French settlers called themselves the Diamantes built a trading post near Wabash Falls. By 1827, all Native Americans had been removed from the area, leaving only Germans, Swedes, Irishmen and British settlers behind. In 1839, James Silliman bought land along Wabash River for $5 per acre. He named his new village after General George Armstrong Custer; Custer was one of General Winfield Scott's protégés and had helped lead American forces against Mexican forces at Pueblo de Zaragoza in 1846. For many years thereafter, it was considered one of America's most remote villages becauseroad access was difficult and there were no schools or other amenities available to locals until the early 20th century when gasoline prices began rising across much of Indiana。 On March 3rd 1896 by an act of the state legislature (Chapter 527), Wabash became part of that newly formed county which included 4 other smaller towns – Belleville (now Terre Haute), Carmel (later Noblesville), Goshen (nowValidus) and West Mifflin (now Philadelphia). At this time there were only 1 store in each township with supplies brought in by wagons coming downriver daily from Chicago via Old National Road (). On October 17th 1902 2 more stores opened – One in Terre Haute & One at Carmel (& still operate today). Starting out as just 7 residents & 14 jobs they quickly grew into 25 with over 50 businesses starting up within 2 decades! This growth led to annexation by neighboring Hamilton Township on November 11th 1916 which created 2 more business districts: East & West Hamiltontown! With so much activity going on it was difficult to keep trackof who did what or when something happened! Over time these districts have morphed into their current form: Downtown Cincinnati/West Side & Southside! All indicativeof how great things have become since then…..

Wabash is one of three cities in the Indianapolis metropolitan area, along with Carmel and Noblesville. The original name for Wabash was "Wadena". A post office called Warsaw was established in 1814, but it never served as an incorporated town. In 1825, John Sills founded what would become Wabash College; he also donated land for the college's first building. The college became part of Indiana University Bloomington in 1915). In 1848, General David Gregg built a stockade around what is now downtown Wabash to protect settlers from Native Americans seeking to take their land during the Mexican-American War (see Battle of Fort Gibson). In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln appointed James Fenton US Army Colonel to lead a military expedition against Confederate forces at Fort Donelson on Tennessee's Cumberland River. Because most soldiers were volunteers rather than professional officers, Fenton had no command over his troops and died leading them into battle On October 11th 1865 Union general Douglas MacArthur arrived at Fort Donelson with 1,500 men following news that General Fenton had been killed while leading his brigade into battle against Confederate General Pemberton's unit some miles downstream near present day Lafayette Lakefront State Park north of Indianapolis
