The history of the Wabash Army is one that goes back to 1852. The first unit to be organized in this area was the 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, which was mustered into the Union army on November 15, 1852. From its inception until 1865, Wabash County served as a base for the army. In 1861, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered all volunteer units in Indiana to reenforce the Union armies in response to Confederate attacks on Fort Henry and other strategic points throughout Indiana. The 1st Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry continued serving through 1862 and 1863 when it was transferred to Company C of the 6th Brigade (Union) Division under General Philip Sheridan. This brigade was eventually reassigned to General George Buell’s command and fought at Battle of Shiloh in April 1862. After Campaigning with Sherman’s Armies through Missouri and Arkansas Valley, including Battle of Pea Ridge where he lost an arm during an engagement with Colonel John Maney’s regiment of cavalry, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered his divisional commander Admiral David Dixon Porter to send detachments from Wabash County northward along the Mobile River toward Chattanooga in order “to put a stop finally or nearly so these rebels who have been doing such mischief throughout our state”1 In 1865, after Vicksburg had fallen under Confederate control, troops were sent eastward across Mississippi River for occupation duty before being stationed at Cairo, Illinois until their departure for home on July 4th1 At their disbandment on July 5th1 approximately 3200 men from Wabash County remained attached directly or indirectly to self-governing local militias under Majors Ransom Aiken and Henson Ewell2 These troops were remnants of what would become known as “the First Reserve Army Group”3 The post-war years saw many changes take place within the military within Indiana; however there was no change within Wabash County specifically. On January 1st 1930 Vietnam War veteran Major James Rodgers came ashore with his unit at Pierpont City Naval Shipyard after spending five months training aboard USS Pogue while stationed off Vietnam4 He later became Commandant/Chiefof Police for Marion Municipal Airport5 Today there are still soldiers deployed worldwide who serve our country out of patriotism and love for it; however this isn't limited solely to those organizations located within our borders anymore! There are now both military installations located overseas as well as deployments taking place domestically that involve citizens from both sides of our great nation's conflict! It's truly amazing how things have changed over time; but I'm sure that we will always remember those who have worn uniforms and left their mark upon our community – thank you for your service!

The brigade was mustered into service on November 1, 1861. The brigade fought in the Battle of Fort Donelson and the Battle of Chattanooga. It also fought in General Sherman's March to the Sea. Wabash, Indiana is a small city in the U.S. state of Indiana and has been since January 1, 1832. The population was 9,829 at the 2010 census. Wabash is located in the central part of the state on the Wabash River. It is bordered by Union Township to the north, Harrison Township to the east, Goshen Township to the south, and Posey County to the west. The town was founded on November 16, 1792 by John Jernigan as a post office named for General Marquis de Lafayette's army which invaded British India during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). Lafayette had commanded an army that fought at Battle of Saratoga in 1777 and then at Yorktown in 1781 before his death in March of that year. The new post office was renamed for him on December 6th of that year. In 1800 Wabash had a population of just 12 people but it grew rapidly thanks to fur traders and loggers who came through from nearby Fort Wayne during those early years of settlement. By 1830 there were over 100 residents living here and some 2 miles wide by 2 miles wide with only one house per mile! In 1834 Wabash became part of Terre Haute County when it was created from parts of Kosciusko County and Elkhart County. At that time it had a population size just over 100 people with several stores and two churches – oneMethodist and one Presbyterian – both built near what is now Main Street downtown. Growth continued until around 1870 when transportation became available via railroads which led to declines in population due to commuting distance or changes in industry outside town limits (the closure of sawmills & other heavy manufacturing sites led to dramatic reductions in housing stock within Wabash). From its peak population around 1910-1920 Wabash's resident passed 513 per day but this slowly declined thereafter due primarily to loss of jobs associated with World War I (which caused significant social upheaval) as well as disease epidemics brought about by戦争 activities such as trench warfare etc.. After World War II however, rapid postwar growth resumed which has seen present day residential development including numerous large single family homes across much arterial business district downtown along Broadway Avenue (formerly Main Street). Many businesses have also opened up adjacent satellite malls throughout downtown including Applebees/Burger King/ Wendy’s/ Subway etc.; making today’s downtown area one very busy commercial center with limitedresidential space remaining
The Wabash River forms the eastern border of Indiana. It flows through the state from east to west, and its course is crossed by a number of major highways. The river was named for General James H. Wabash, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a U.S. Representative from Indiana.
