On February 14th, 1836 John Breslin organized a company called "Breslin & Company", which built mills at Three Rivers and started up commerce there. By 1840 Wabash had a population of 1,200 people (). In 1860s Wabash experienced heavy industry as railroads were established there to transport goods from Illinois and Iowavia Indianapolis to Louisville and Cincinnati via points eastward. After several years during which no new industry developed in town because competition from nearby larger cities led to joblessness for many residents (), on April 10th 1865 two companies combining with other small firms formed The first National Tube Works Co., Ltd., located just east side Main Street between Third avenue and Indiana University Avenue within sight of today's State Capitol building (). This company manufactured tubes used in munitions manufacturing across America until its closure in 1935 due mainly to World War II production shortages caused by ADVENTURE AIRCRAFT manufacturersq . Today part or all brick buildings north side Main Street between Third avenue and Indiana University Avenue remain standing from this early industrial past
