He had started working at Hardwell Motorsports Incorporated when they purchased their former rival Barron Racing from Harry Bartholomew back in late 1978 after that team folded due to financial troubles brought about by high fuel prices at that time period! With continued success under Yarborough’s ownership including runner up finishes at both Daytona Beach International Raceway and Watkins Glen International Raceway over successive seasons culminating with a third place finish at Sebring International Raceway in 1961 - he helped solidify INDY as an annual major event for sports car enthusiasts all across North America!

The first track was located on what is now State Road 527 in Harrison Township, Indiana. From 1913 to 1918, the track was known as "The Racecourse". In 1927, Speedway moved to its current location on State Road 527 in Harrison Township. The tracks attendance increased from 1,500 to 4,000 over the next few years until World War II interrupted those growth rates. After the war ended, Speedway reverted back to its original size with only 8 races per year until 1951 when they added their second track which became known as "The Mile". In 1957, NASCAR purchased the facility and began hosting national events there including the Daytona 500 which took place at that time across neutral territory (Florida).
