There are many sources of coffee history and it can be difficult to determine where each one begins. One such source is the coffee press. There were at least two types of presses used in early coffee production- the distiller’s or still press, and the roaster’s or vat press. The distiller’s or still press was a type of pressing that used a potter’s wheel to turn a small amount of water into drinkable beans. The second type, the roaster’s or vat press, was invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. It was an improvement on the stillpress because it allowed for more consistent extraction of flavor from beans. This difference in processing methods led to significant variations in taste among different coffees from different regions. For example, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe is considered one of the most complex and flavorful coffees available today due its unique blend of Africa, Arabica, and Sumatra beans. However, this same bean produces a less complex flavor when roasted in a standard still press setting than when roasted in a Distiller's Press. This variety became known as "bad" ground Ethiopia because it lacked valuable flavors found in good ground coffee such as chocolate and caramelization (the process by which these flavors are formed). Eventually, even though they were both important operations within the coffee industry at certain points during its development, Distiller's Presses began to disappear whilestill presses continued to be produced until about 1910[1]. After that point there wasn't really another major use for them other than being recycled as parts equipment for largerStill Presses until about 1930[2].

South Bend, Indiana is a small city in the United States. The population was 61,859 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of LaPorte County. Settled by European Americans in the late 18th century, South Bend became a national center for education and science in the 19th century and 20th century. The city has experienced significant growth since its incorporation as a city in 1954 and today employs over 100% of its workforce within its borders. The history of South Bend can be traced back to 1795 when some French traders founded a trading post near what is now downtown South Bend. In 1818, Congress passed an act authorizing the erection of Fort Dearborn on Niles Harbor Peninsula to protect American shipping interests in that part of Lake Michigan. The fort was built by Major General Josiah Harmar (1762-1826), who served under Ulysses S. Grant during the Mexican–American War and also supervised construction of Fort Wayne (now Indianapolis). By 1830, however, Dearborn had been taken down and replaced by new structures on what is now Notre Dame Avenue including New College Hall which served as a Preparatory School for prominent citizens of Indiana until 1890; this building still stands today as one of South Bend’s most notable landmarks. In 1836, Congressman James Kapp introduced legislation calling for creation of a university within Indiana’s boundaries – but no action was taken until 1857 when Representative John Cushing introduced bills creating Purdue University (later Purdue University Northwest) and adding IU Bloomington as its first campus location.
