Commodore Dewey was Commander-in-Chief of American forces at Paris when this war began and played an important role in defeating Germany and its ally Austria-Hungary at World War I’s Battles of Passchendaele and Armentière respectively. During World War II, Army Sergeant First Class Chester Cagle became one of America’s most honored soldiers due to his heroism during the Battle of Guadalcanal on November 7th, 1942.
