The navy has a long and proud history in Seymour, Indiana. The USS Constitution was commissioned here in 1797 and the USS Olympia followed suit in 1800. The shipyards that built these vessels were some of the most important in the world at the time. They produced ships for both American and British navies. These yards also developed tools and equipment used by sailors on board these vessels, such as wheelbarrows, sails, anchors, and cannons. Today's navy is much different than it was when these ships were built. The fleet now consists of many smaller boats which are more difficult to operate than older warships. However, there are still a number of Navy-sponsored events taking place here throughout the year. For example, during Naval Week (the annual celebration of naval service), military members and their families come to town to celebrate with festivities including free food and drinks from local bars and restaurants. This year's event will take place on Saturday, March 9th from 10am-5pm at the Seymour Municipal Complex located on Court Street South in Seymour. In addition to its role in maritime history, Seymour also played an important role during World War II. Many of the citizens here aided in supplying war effort with goods like flour and oil needed for warships stationed offshore or providing support services like air defense or convoy guarding operations. In 1944, Admiral Chester Nimitz declared this town "A City of Service" due to all that had been done for troops fighting abroad since Pearl Harbor two years earlier. Today's city is home to many businesses which contribute significantly to local economies - from small businesses selling eggs door-to-door or helping out at community events to large companies that give back through volunteerism or donation drives."

The team that mounted the first successful Tomahawk cruise missile launch from a navy unit on board Seymour in October of 2001 was spearheaded by Commodore John R. White, USNR (Ret.).
Seymour, Indiana is a town in Hancock County, Indiana, United States. The population was 581 at the 2010 census. The former post office in Seymour was discontinued on December 12, 2009. The town of Seymour was platted in 1851. It became part of the larger city of Terre Haute, Indiana on February 17, 1907. On January 1, 1920, the towns of Seymour and LaPorte were merged into the new city of Terre Haute. On July 14, 1984, Seymour Township (northwest section) was unincorporated and became part of the new city of Terre Haute. On October 20, 2007 a fire destroyed most of the business district in downtown Terre Haute after starting with an unattended can left burning on east side street near First National Bank building. At least four businesses were impacted by this devastating fire - Lowe's home improvement store; Subway; CVS Pharmacy and Cooks Gourmet BBQ restaurant which reopened later that day as a franchise restaurant called "Barracuda"

Seymour, Indiana is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kokomo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Seymour post office was established in 1881 and discontinued operations in 1957. Seymour Township was organized in 1881. The present-day Seymour village was founded by German immigrants who named their new community after General Lafayette (1737-1825). The Germans were also instrumental in building the first railroad through Kosciusko County and on to Paducah, Kentucky. Seymour's early history can be traced back to 1821 when George Merrill bought land from the Shawnee Indians for $10 per acre. In 1850, Merrill erected a sawmill and gristmill on the stream that later became known as Blackwater Creek. He also built a house and barn on what is now Main Street which he called "Merrill's Mill". By 1860, Merrill had married Anna Ladd and they started to raise crops and sell goods at home as well as operate a wagon shop across the street from their mill. In 1863, they sold their farm to John Cramer who moved his family into what would become Seymour Village; however, it only took six years for Cramer’s heirs to build two more houses on what is now Main Street - one of which still stands today! In 1867-68 an act of Congress authorized the construction of a schoolhouse at Seymour; however due to financial difficulties (the Panic of 1893) not many students learned how to read or write until after World War II when Seymour School District No. 1 opened its doors with 8th grade students on October 12th 1945! Today we are blessed with 9th grade students who attend North Central High School located just east of town on State Road 310! Although our current school buildings date back only three decades – we richly credit all prior educators with helping make Seymour such an accomplished community today! Seymour was founded in 1820 by Seymour brothers. The town was named for General Arthur Seymour, who served as the first United States Senator from Indiana. After Indian Removal Act of 1830, the area around Seymour was designated as a reservation and remained that way until it became part of the Indiana Territory in 1846. In 1853, due to an increase in population and development in neighboring towns, Seymour passed a law creating a board of trustees to manage the town's affairs. The board continued to exist until 1959 when it was disbanded because of budget cuts.
