The Seymour, Indiana National Guard was founded in 1917. The unit has served in a variety of capacities since then, including the Army Reserve and the Air Force. Today, the Seymour, Indiana National Guard is composed of over 1,200 members who serve proudly as protectors of our community and its citizens. The history of the Seymour, Indiana National Guard can be traced back to 1917 when local residents organized a militia to support WWI efforts. The first unit fielded by the Seymour Militia consisted of 7 men and was named “The Guardsmen”. Over time, more units were formed and renamed until finally in 1921 the organization became known as the Seymour Regiment Infantry Battalion (later also as Company A). In 1933-1934 another battalion was formed and named for General George Custer which would become Company B (Custer Battalion) in 1946. Finally on July 1st 1947 company C (Custer County National Guard) was born from merger of two battalion companies with personnel from other areas in central Indiana. Today, specialties within the national guard include: air defense; counterintelligence; disaster relief; peacekeeping/humanitarian assistance; state police; homeland security/response;and counterterrorism measures. Additionally, there are numerous detachments throughout Marion County consisting of infantry regiment troops along with artillery batteries and cavalry troopers for various missions around town or countywide tasks such as Search and Rescue or providing protection during carnivals or holiday events. In recent years there have been several changes to how gift giving within the Seymour community occurs both through official channels such as birthday parties or Soldier's Day ceremonies but also more informal celebrations like 4th Of July picnics which often feature patriotic games and snacks provided by local businesses! The community name is derived from a place called Seymour on the Ohio River. The post office was established in 1858 and changed its name to Seymour in 1865. In 1870, local farmers organized into a town corporation and the name of the town was changed to Seymour again. The post office closed in 1954 and the community ceased operations that year. Today, Seymour remains an unincorporated community with only traces of its past remaining as residents continue to live there today.

Seymour, Indiana is a small town in Clay Township, Kosciusko County,Indiana. Seymour was platted in 1828 and named for General Isaac Seymour of the United States Army. The post office at Seymour was established in 1829, and remained in operation until it discontinued operations in 1906. The first settler to arrive on the township site were Abram and Martha Jepson who erected a log cabin on the present site of the town on December 12th, 1830. This was followed by another cabin by Abraham Wilkinson erected on October 25th, 1831. A millinery shop and gristmill were built in 1832 by John Wilkinson; these mills continued to operate until they were destroyed by fire in 1922. In 1834 Amos Hodge with his family removed from Ohio to this area and erected a log cabin known as "Hodge's Cabin." The first schoolhouse which stands today was built about 1850 by James Pritchard. The present Seymourtown Hall was built about 1899-1900 by Mrs. Fannie Sievers (née Kapp). It is one of only two buildings remaining from that time period still standing in the township including many other structures which have been replaced or demolished over time including original courthouse building also located hereabouts as well as several churches/synagogues; all but one of these structures have since been demolished either due to demolition codes or hurricane damage combined however some remain extant such as church property across I-70 bridge serving now as home offices for local businesses while portions remain used for various purposes such as storage apartments etc.. It should be noted that during much of its history Seymourtownhall has been subject to vandalism both inside and outside though recent efforts have made an effort to protect it altogether with more security cameras etcetera making it easier for law enforcement officials etcetera although continuing vandals are still occasionally encountered especially around Halloween when candy can be easily obtained within easy reach
Seymour was founded in 1824 by Isaac Seymour and his wife, Nancy. The town was named for General James Seymour, who had commanded the United States forces during the Mexican-American War. The first post office was established in 1827, and the first store opened in 1830. In 1836, Seymour became a county seat of Posey County. In 1840, the population of Seymour totaled 248 people; however, by 1850 it had grown to 1,500. By 1870 the population had reached 4,000. In 1881, Seymour merged with neighboring towns of Warsaw and Dunkirk to form an enlarged town of Seymour-Warsaw-Dunkirk. The new town had a total area of 26 square miles and a population of 2,711 people.
